While touring the Mayo clinic on Monday, Sen. Al Franken indicated his support for a public option in the health care reform package being debated in Congress. Meanwhile, Sen. Amy Klobuchar pondered an alternative: health insurance cooperatives.

“I’m favorable to the public option, a strong public option which will provide competition for private insurance companies. This is something I think there has been a lot of misinformation about,” Franken said, echoing his earlier support expressed during an interview with The UpTake.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar told KAAL-TV that health insurance cooperatives might be the better option.

“And one of the things we’re starting to hear is we want to have some tug on the insurance companies so they offer good rates to us. We want to have some type of competition,” Klobuchar said.

Support for the public option is relatively weak in the Senate where Blue Dog senators are trying to kill it in favor of cooperatives. Around 60 House members, including Rep. Keith Ellison, have said they will kill any bill that does not contain the public option.

Klobuchar has just become expendable. We need a Democrat in that seat.

Give Senator Klobuchar a chance to do the right thing. She is likely to come around, support public options

The Republicans are saying there’s no difference between a co-op and a public option, so they still won’t support it. Maybe they’re right, that they’re effectively the same, but that assumes the co-op in national in scope. My understanding is the proposal is for state or regional co-ops. National would actually be fine, provided it came with strong government guarantees, like enough funding if premiums fall short, all providers have to accept it, and the premiums are sliding scale.

Klobuchar just lost my vote! I wondered how she was teetering on the fence. It should also be known that she votes against the E Verify program also. She prefers to give our jobs to illegals everytime this vote comes up!

Time to rally against Dems who do not vote the best interests of the people!Call her offices and demand she fall in line with the Democratic party and not the blue dogs!

U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar will be hosting a live statewide tele-town hall meeting to discuss making health care more affordable and answer questions from her constituents. Joining her will be Dr. Denis Cortese, CEO of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester and Mary Wakefield, the highest ranking nurse in the federal government.

The tele-town hall will be held on Sunday, August 23, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. Central Time. Those wishing to participate can register for the call by registering below.

The deadline for registering for the call is Friday, August 21, 2009 at 12:00pm. Those who register will receive an automated reminder phone call on Friday evening and then a call on Sunday to be joined to the call.

Members of the public with questions regarding this event should call Senator Klobuchar’s office at: 1-888-224-9043

Mayo Clinic being against the public option and Klobuchar now in bed with Mayo, need to hear from you. Is Mayo now supporting Klobuchars campaign funding like other lobbyists buying votes in DC? Is she the New Blue Dog for MN?

I have sent emails to Amy, Al and Keith – If the public option (or something equally as strong) is not passed this year I will not vote for any of them again. It doesn’t matter if they support the public option or not. If they fail on this it means that they are not doing the job we elected them to do and they do not deserve to be returned to the House or Senate. It’s a sad thing to say but we need to make our representatives more afraid of us than they are of Big Money whether it’s health care or the credit industry or the oil companies.

I cannot believe that little creeps like Grassely, Baucus and Conrad are holding the whole country hostage.

If Amy fails on supporting the public option, I will have to not support her any more. That really makes me sad because I think she is in the best position to be the first President of the United States from Minnesota.

Amy do the right thing and don’t wreck what has been a great DFL career.

A big thank you to Al Franken, a man for whom LIBERAL is not a dirty word. I’m proud to have voted for you.

We need a public option, personally ive lost faith in the federal government to get real healthcare change. Its time the state of minnesota creates a single payer system or nationalizes everything all together.
