Video: Obama’s ‘Embrace’ turns celebrity charge back on McCain
Monday, August 11, 2008 at 10:34 am
Widely assailed for being dismissive of the McCain "Celebs" ad that’s been running on TV in 11 states and a breakaway web hit, the Obama campaign has released a new ad this morning called "Embrace." The :30 spot tries to turn the tables on McCain by pointing out that McCain has courted political celebrity for over a decade in his bid to make it to the White House someday.
"For decades, he’s been Washington’s biggest celebrity," intones the narrator in high Tabloid-TV "gotcha" style. "And as Washington embraced him, John McCain hugged right back."
The ad goes on to invoke lobbyists, “low-road” campaigning, tax breaks for oil and drug companies, and McCain’s history of flip-floppery and opportunism.
