Rep. John Kline has vowed not to request earmarks for his district until Congress gets a hold on runaway federal spending. Kline even launched a website called "Stop the Pork," on which he says, "Comprehensive earmark reform is one of Congressman Kline’s top priorities this year in Congress and he will continue to be a leader against wasteful pork-barrel spending."

Then why is he a cosponsor for a $1 million birthday party for President Ronald Reagan? Minnesota Central reports that the earmark for the Ronald Reagan Centennial Commission amount to more federal dough than the earmarks Kline has been railing against.

HR 5235 would earmark $1 million to "plan, develop, and carry out such activities as the Commission considers fitting and proper to honor Ronald Reagan on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his birth." The Republican-backed bill also has the support of Rep. Jim Ramstad who has made no pork-based pledges. Interestingly absent from the 167 Republican cosponsors? Rep. Michele Bachmann. While in the State Senate, she authored a bill to rename the 494/694 beltway the "Ronald Reagan Beltway."
