The Norm Coleman campaign shows its first public sign of fear in a new :30 spot released yesterday. "Why Not" is a shorthand review of the personal gaffes committed by Al Franken in the race to date. There was no question the race would come to this, but it seems telling that the Coleman campaign is justifying the nasty turn by claiming Franken "went negative" first by highlighting Coleman’s close ties to the Bush White House.
In any case, it’s funny to see three men in a bowling alley tutting over "pornography" like octogenarian church ladies.
The ad is the third bowling alley commercial in the race. The other two–Coleman’s original "he brought hockey back" ad and Franken’s web-only satiric spin on it–are below in case you missed them.
Coleman for Senate: "Why Not?" (:30)
Coleman for Senate: "One Thing" (:30)
Franken for Senate: "A Few More Things" (:47)

Ha! I hadn’t noticed that in my Fargoesque head shaking at the whole setting. Yes, “juicy” can only be good, except perhaps if you’re a total Midwestern goober. Right?
Now, if they’d said “crunchy”, it’d be different – unless you’re a fan of the fine art of … well, nevermind.
I’m glad I gave up commercial teevee if this is what shows up on it. Yeesh!

Bowler A mentions “juicy porn.” Isn’t that an odd choice of adjective? Is he decrying it, or is he a fan?

I’ve always like Franken. But I have to tell ya, there’s enough stuff in “Why Not Me?” alone to torpedo him.
And this is what the Coleman people do with it? These have to be Washingtoon produced, because it all smells like an East-Coast parody of what Middle America is like.
Coleman probably should win this thang. But if this is what he’s got, I wouldn’t bet on it.
