Convention cops: SPPD releases list of departments sending officers to RNC

This afternoon the St. Paul Police Department released names and numbers regarding the Minnesota police agencies that will send cops to St. Paul to patrol during the Republican National Convention. (The timing of the release was prompted in part by yesterday’s Minnesota Independent story; details inside Paul Demko’s story.)
For now, here’s the release itself, sent along by Tom Walsh of SPPD. The most salient number, by far: 1,819 officers signed, sealed and delivered through joint powers agreements (JPAs), even though Walsh’s number at bottom (2,937) is much larger. Officials think they need a total force of 3,000-plus.

Update: At least one agency listed as having signed a joint powers agreement with St. Paul, the Minnesota Gang Strike Force, denies it.

Joint Powers Agreement
The City of Saint Paul, as the lead local agency for security for the upcoming Republican National Convention, has been contacting local law enforcement agencies to provide staff for that event. Approximately 3000 officers will be used. It was determined early on that the best way to schedule, provide indemnification, and to reimburse agencies for their officer’s time was to enter into a Joint Powers Agreement.
The following are agencies with whom the City of Saint Paul has entered into Joint Powers Agreements.

In addition there are letters of commitment from an additional 20 agencies totaling an additional 166 officers In addition there are some 117 officers that have been pledged under the existing mutual aid agreement with more each day. Those numbers total 2937 officers as of today.

Last report I saw showed that Wall Street gave more money to Democrat candidates than Republicans. Conversely, red states (Republican) give way more to charity than blue states (Democrat). But then you’re probably not interested in facts, only old, worn-out stereotypes. How many millions is Barack worth now? Additionally, most of the cops working the RNC are working on their days off from their normal cities. Yes…even cops get days off.

But I thought all these cities were crying the blues because they can’t afford enough cops on the streets to protect the citizens. Yet there are evidently over 2,600 cops sitting around the coffee shops in Minnesota with nothing better to do than volunteer their time to babysit a bunch of coddled rich Republicans? And what will these cops do when they’re no longer needed for the RNC? “Frosted or sugared?”
