Policy Hack - "As a governor, Pawlenty was reasonable..." Hardly.
First of all, Pawlenty is STILL governor. He still has responsibilities to the people of Minnesota, although you'd hardly know it. Secondly, he was NEVER reasonable. That may have been the image his PR machine promoted and people may have wanted to believe they elected a reasonable person, but the policies he has actually supported are extremely right-wing. He has had press conferences to announce reasonable-sounding policies, but he has never put his weight behind these issues to get them passed into law. In fact, he often lined up support behind the scenes to make sure they didn't actually come to pass. And if you are gay or lesbian or belong to some group who would never in a million years support him, you can always count on him to do his best to increase your suffering. He is an evil prick - even if he does flatter reporters and return their calls.

As a Governor, Pawlenty was reasonable. As a presidential candidate, he is an unrecognizable panderer to the right wing. He doesn't make sense anymore. He's joined the Grand Obstructionist Party.

I'm glad someone brought up the attacks on Franken, because these people who say a 20-year-old thesis is too old to be relevant, but age was no barrier when they dredged up material to use against Franken. Since Franken had to answer for a joke he wisely opted not to use, then a whole thesis of fundamentalist claptrap should be a disqualifier for public office.
