rybak_largeMinneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak raised roughly $260,000 during the first eight months of the year, according to his campaign. The two-term incumbent had $67,000 cash on hand at the start of September.

“I’m pleased that our campaign is on track,” Rybak said in a statement announcing the fundraising figures. “Part of putting together a strong campaign means raising enough resources to get out your message and mobilizing your supporters.”

Rybak faces ten challengers in the November election, the first in which Minneapolis will utilize instant-runoff voting. In 2005 he won re-election with 61 percent of the vote. The Democrat is also mulling a 2010 bid for governor. He cannot, however, use any leftover cash from his mayoral campaign for a statewide contest.

Good Ol’ Rybak,
I’d love to support you like I did in the past elections, but you threw us “peaceful protestors” under the bus last year. Just can’t stomach helping you out this year. Maybe those cops can support your campaign this year.. that is IF they live in Minneapolis.

Lets see.. I wonder how many peace groups are in the Minneapolis? I can bet more members than there are cops. And many of us usually help on campaigns and donate. Not this year.. I’m giving my campaign cash to only true peace candidates. Candidates who wouldn’t let their city be taken over by crazed out of town sheriff and his goons.

Still waiting for the apology, and condemnation of out of control police action.

Dear Peace,
Mayor Rybak has been and continues to be one of the loudest voices for peace and peaceful protest; he was one of the only elected officials speaking out against the war in Iraq since day one. He is glad that so many continue to speak out against the wars we are in and is proud of the support he has from many people who fight for peace.

Statewide?

Wait . . . is he not allowed to spend his mayoral funds statewide? Then how has he been going all over the state campaigning and speaking at gubernatorial forums? Where exactly are the funds for that coming from? Come to think of it, how is Chris Coleman doing that also?

Either our MN’s campaign finance laws are iffy or these guys are ignoring them.
