‘You lie’ OK for ‘tea baggers,’ not for McCollum: PAC to give Wilson’s opponent $1,000

U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum’s political action committee will contribute $1,000 to the candidate challenging South Carolina Rep. Joe Wilson. The Republican’s infamous “you lie” outburst during last night’s presidential address has galvanized support for his Democratic challenger, Rob Miller, across the country. Miller’s campaign has taken in more than $400,000 in less than 24 hours. The retired Marine and Iraq war veteran had less than $50,000 in the bank at the end of June.
“Rep. Wilson’s words were an insult to the President of the United States and an embarrassment to the U.S. House of Representatives,” McCollum said in a statement announcing the contribution. “He crossed a line of protocol and decency that may be acceptable for angry ‘tea baggers’ at a rally, but is completely unacceptable for a Member of Congress in the House Chambers.”
McCollum also implored other Democrats to provide support for Miller. The South Carolina district represented by Wilson leans strongly GOP, registering a +9 in the Cook Partisan Voting Index.

My contribution goes to Joe. The Democrats booed George Bush during his State of the Union Address. I believe this was premeditated. Wilson opened his mouth in an emotional outburst when overcome by the audacious trash Obama was putting out. I doubt he planned it.

Not only was the heckling of Obama uncalled for and wrong, it’s very poor form. Everyone in the chambers has a right to hold their own opinion, however the Chamber is governed by something akin to “Robert’s Rules of Order” and, as such, allows for, during the course of refereed access to the floor, dissent and discussion without insults and heckling from others. These still apply during Obama’s speech, because it was a “special session” of “Congress” called by the Speaker, who turned the floor over to the President. At that time, anything said by Pres. Obama would be on the record and he is the only speaker allowed onto to speak on the floor. Rep. Wilson’s heckling was illegal and outside the Rules of The Chamber and, thus, improper. Even though I believe in his RIGHT to feel as he did and his RIGHT to speak, his forsworn statement to abide by the Rules of the House binds him to appropriate behavior, which would include silence at any time he does not have permission from the Speaker to speak. His apology to the President was not enough. He needs to apologize to his fellow House members, all the Senate members and every single person in this country. He broke the rules he agreed to play by, therefore he must make amends for this. A PUBLICLY AIRED APOLOGY stating what the Rules of The House are and explaining to all those “Birchers” “Birthers” “Death Panels” “Child Indoctrination” believers exactly why he should have held his tongue last night, as they seem to see a “shadow movement” behind any educational attempt not made by a dyed in the wool Republican.
