VP or not VP: Among running mate wannabes, nobody bundles cash for McCain like T-Paw

If Gov. Tim Pawlenty doesn’t ultimately make the cut as John McCain’s vice presidential candidate, it certainly won’t be for lack of effort. After being pressured by advocacy groups, the McCain campaign has updated its web site to disclose all contributors who have bundled at least $50,000 in contributions. While individuals are prohibited from giving more than $4,600 throughout the primary and general election campaigns, those seeking to endear themselves to powerful figures in Washington often hand over numerous contributions from friends and associates at once.
McCain’s updated list of these super-bundlers includes a new top tier of donors who have raised more than $500,000 for the campaign. Among this select group: billionaire financier Henry Kravis, ChevronTexaco lobbyist Wayne Berman, New Orleans developer Joseph Canizaro and Pawlenty. No other politician who’s believed to be on McCain’s short list of VP candidates has raised that much money for the campaign.
