Birther at Obama rally: ‘The media are down on their knees in front of Obama sucking as hard as they can’

birtherNot everyone on hand at the Target Center for Saturday’s rally, of course, was there to support President Obama’s health care reform agenda. While the anti-Obama protesters were sparser than might have been expected considering the vitriolic debates of recent weeks, there were a few dozen folks toting signs warning of the looming, socialist health-care apocalypse.

But even among the protesters, this woman stood out. Clad in a surgical mask for much of the day, she toted two signs with different anti-Obama messages on each side. She declined to provide her name.

“Obama supporters are ruthless,” she said in explanation. “They’ll go after people, they’ll search them down and they’ll make life hell for them.”

Among the slogans on her signs: “PUMAS for NObama.” For those with short memories of the 2008 presidential campaign, PUMA stands for “Party Unity My Ass” and was briefly touted as a movement of disgruntled Hillary Clinton supporters refusing to back the party’s nominee.

“I’m a disgruntled Democrat,” said the woman. “I want this administration out. They’re a bunch of thugs. Chicago politics.”

birther IIWhen asked what she meant by the phrase “Chicago politics,” she elaborated.

“They bring in communists,” she said. “They lie. They bring in terrorists, Bill Ayers. … And the media covers for him. The media are down on their knees in front of Obama sucking as hard as they can.”

The Inver Grove Heights resident is not at all assuaged by the fact that Clinton is now serving as Secretary of State in the Obama administration.

“It pisses me off,” she said. “I want her to leave. She’s going to run for New York governor and I will support her then. I want her out of that administration. That administration has got to go.”

She also carried a sign questioning whether Obama is an American citizen.

“His own grandma said he was born in Kenya,” she stated (erroneously). “His own grandma. And they won’t produce his real birth certificate. All they give us is the certificate of live birth from Hawaii. Anybody can get one of those if you live in Hawaii. You don’t have to have been born there. That’s all they’ve shown to us. And they won’t show us his college transcripts either.”

What did she hope to accomplish by coming out today?

“Showing them I’m not a mindless Obama-bot like all these other people who want an American Idol for president,” she said. “I believe in Amerca’s freedoms. I don’t like him going to other countries apologizing for us. I don’t like him almost spitting in the eye of our allies. He doesn’t care about Britain. He doesn’t care about Israel. And he goes and he bows to the King of Saudi Arabia.”

Surgical mask… perhaps that is her idea of health care reform.

Hyperbolic vitriol was alive and well, I see. Hard to believe she’s a Democrat. Stay classy, Inver Grove Heights!

Sounds like a LaRouche supporter to me. They “claim” to be Democrats too.

Paul Demko wrote the story he wanted, and then found a protester to fill in a little detail. Vitriol aside, I believe the various bills all seem to be a short path to socialism. Socialism has never worked, and it is not working here. Medicare is socialism, and we owe 39.7 trillion in unfunded obligations. (usdebtclock.org). Individual choice, individual decisions, and individual rationing are the only just and fiscally acceptable way to determine what care one receives. The farthest we should go with governement options is the Swiss style of competitive but mandated insurance that reimburses healthy life choices in the form of rebates.

I wouldn’t worry about it. This country is so badly polarized it couldn’t pass wind, much less healthcare reform. If Clinton or McCain had been elected President, everything would be status quo and all we’d have in the news to listen to would be economic woes.
My question is if the United States has such great medical care, why is our infant mortality rate so high? 33rd worst according to United Nations or 46th worst according to CIA World Factbook.

Eric, where hasn’t socialism worked? Western Europe seems to be doing just fine with their national health systems. You mentioend Switzerland, but the rest of them wonder what is wrong the US. They spend half of what we do for better results, they’re freed from the fear of being denied access, and no one goes bankrupt for medical bills. If that’s socialism, we need much more of it.

If Demko made up those quotes, he deserves a Nobel prize for Literature. That is exactly how some of these people talk. Just this last week one of the louder local teabaggers left a comment at my blog about how a prominent Minnesota liberal’s daughter has sex with dogs. He even specified the breed. Not a leader in their movement, but he’s been a guest on local talk radio, and is listed on most conservative Minnesota blogrolls.

Larouchies, btw, are usually more coherent, and more on message. Cultists usually are. Talk radio fans, otoh, are all over the place and often splice dissimilar thoughts into the same sentence.

Listen to the voice of hate, vile hate. Listen to the frustrated, enraged, pseudo-rational types who are at their best when they are ranting into a microphone about the evils of socialism.

Eric Ferguson is absolutely correct. I couldn’t agree more.

It is jaw-dropping what total BS these conservatives believe about health care and “socialism.”

Let’s bring it down to basics: In a society, everybody pools their money together to create SERVICES that we otherwise couldn’t provide for ourselves. We pay for police, and they protect us. When your house is burning, there’s a fire department to put out the fire. We have schools to educate our children, roads and bridges so we can travel, and parks that are maintained so we can enjoy the outdoors.

These are all funded by citizens, and they make our society better and more livable.

Surely one can agree to a concept this simple, right? So what is so goddamn different about health care?? What is it that makes health care so different from other services we need for a healthy society? This is a complete breakdown in compassion for our fellow neighbors.

Socialism = Society. It seems to me that if you’re anti-socialist, you’re anti-social.

If you really get to the crux of what the conservatives believe, you see they really don’t care about anyone but themselves and their wallet. They go nuts when they see their money being used to help other people, and then make excuses to justify their selfishness. When society suffers, they look the other way and say, “Well, that’s not my problem. They should just work harder and eat better (more expensive) food.” That’s very anti-social. Meanwhile, medical costs are now the leading cause of bankruptcy in the US.

They keep bringing up how the government is a giant bureaucracy that can’t do anything right. What about the police or fire departments? What about schools, MnDot or the park systems? That’s your government, and they work just fine.

If people can’t afford health care, this service should be provided by the government. If you can afford your own, good for you. Just one thing… How come the vast majority of parents choose to send their kids to public schools? How come nobody is hiring their own private police force? Why isn’t anyone building their own roads? If I’m following the anti-healthcare logic correctly, all these things should change as well.

Yes, the government is in a tough spot financially. But this was created by George W. Bush, and no one can’t deny that. He’s gone, and we’ll get through this. Besides, this will save our nation billions of dollars. The public option isn’t a burden, it’s an opportunity!

Our government can do anything. It put a man on the Moon, it built the first transcontinental railway and the Panama Canal, it created Social Security and simultaneously defeated the Nazis and Japs.

Our government is us, and we can do anything. Surely we can find the compassion for our fellow neighbors to provide health care, making a better, more livable society.

Right now, we’re seeing where the conservatives stand. They’re anti-social.

Sorry to rant, but… I’m a socialist.

The odd thing about mentioning the government won WWII or any other conflict is conservatives seem not realize the military is part of the government. The people in it are government employees. Of course, some do realize it and hate that fact. The reason the armed forces are so reliant on contractors is the neocons, especially Rumsfeld, wanted a hollowed out army with everything privatized. I think if these fools could abolish the armed forces and just hire a mercenary company, they would do it and damn the consequences.

I sometimes truly wonder what the extremist, Grover Norquist drones would leave as part of government. As Dan rightly points out, there are any number of socialized services that are provided by government. Which of these would eric disband?

I assume the Department of Education is gone, that seems to be a consistent bugbear for the right. Perhaps because of all that evolution they teach-you know, facts?

Pretty sure Interior, and everything in it would be gone as well. This includes the BIA, National Park Service, and we’d have to close all the museums that make up the Smithsonian. I guess every citizen should just go out and get their own Kitty Hawk Flyer, stuffed bull elephant, and Archie Bunker’s armchair. Don’t forget the National Zoo, too. Giraffes and pandas for everyone-you just have to pay for the food.

We could privatize the military too, as Eric Ferguson mentions. Then we’d have no expense in fulfilling our Consitutional obligation to provide for the common defense. Oh wait, I guess we have to pay the contractors, right. Hmm.

I really believe some people don’t think before they talk (or comment).
