LA Times explains the McCain/Reagan rift

I had never seen the text of Nancy Reagan’s remarks in endorsing John McCain at a joint appearance back in March until I read the LA Times story on the Reagans and McCain this weekend. Here’s what she said at the time, complete and unexpurgated:
"Ronnie and I always waited until everything was decided, and then we endorsed. Well, obviously this is the nominee of the party."
Nancy Reagan never forgets, and in Saturday’s Times, Richard Serrano and Ralph Vartabedian expose the roots of her animosity. The Reagans were close to the first Mrs. McCain, Carol, and despised McCain for ditching her out of the blue in 1980, a few months after meeting the future Cindy McCain. All the details, including McCain’s extensive dissembling on the chronology, are here.
