Cops back Coleman in St. Paul mayoral contest

The St. Paul Police Federation has endorsed St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman’s bid for re-election. Coleman faces three challengers in Tuesday’s primary election: Republican-backed Eva Ng and perennial candidates Sharon Anderson and Bill Dahn.
“Mayor Coleman has demonstrated his history of support for public safety by ensuring that even in these tough economic times, we have a full complement of officers on the street in St. Paul,” said police federation president Dave Titus in a statement announcing the decision.
Four years ago, the police union backed Coleman’s top rival for the post, incumbent Randy Kelly.

Republican lite- Coleman let his city be taken over by Homeland Security. He allowed citizens to be searched and seized. Pepper sprayed. Gassed. Tazered. Assaulted. And then supported the lies told my Ramsey Sheriff and Coward Harrington.
He doesn’t deserve to be Mayor. He failed the people of St. Paul.

There is nothing new about this back-scratching. You could have written the story a couple of weeks after the Republican National Convention when Chris “Goldilocks” Coleman proclaimed the police reaction “just right.” Coleman apparently thinks massive police intimidation is “just right.” He apparently reflexively believes that the police are always right and the citizens are always wrong. Coleman apparently believes that the police have every right to break the law, including covering up their badges with riot gear, including assaulting bystanders with pepper-spray, including storming people’s houses without search warrants, including searching people on the streets without warrant or any arrest. Coleman backs the police, because they embody the iron fist of power in St Paul. The police return the favor by backing Coleman. What else is new, except that we used to have more freedoms than we have since last year’s Siege of St Paul.
