Hendrickson was trying to make a point, I think. His point, from my POV, is that idiots have rights, too.

That said: being accused of misdemeanor assault (which is what appears to be the case with the moron; he doesn't show up in the public database as having been convicted of any felony, ever) does not, in and of itself, make somebody a "prohibited person" under Minn. Stat. 624.714. It *may*, however, combined with other information, provide sufficient evidence that he's a "danger to self or others" under that statute; his sheriff -- Rich Stanek -- might choose to apply to a court to have his permit lifted. That would be a judgment call for Sheriff Stanek, who might decide that he's simply noisy and stupid but not dangerous. If he did decide to try to get Hendrickson's permit lifted, a court would have to make the call -- which, under our legal system, is entirely appropriate.

My guess -- and it's just a guess -- is that he pled out to a misdemeanor assault when he pepper-sprayed a customer at his former job, and doesn't have much of anything productive to do with his time. There's not a lot of demand for security guards who have been convicted of violent misdemeanors, I'd gather.

This guy is alledgedly a convicted felon (assault);according to an article conviction for violent crimes curtails a concealed weapon permit.

Should this read on the law be correct why did the MPD detain, but not arrest Hendrickson? I wrote and phoned Minneapolis Mayor/Council with no response. Are these laws arbitrary?

I'm hosting one of the DFL ranked choice voting forums, and I just to want to make sure everyone understands that you won't be walking in, voting, and leaving. We'll be explaining how it's going to work in Minneapolis' local elections this year, and we plan to vote at 7:30 for a practice. There will be Q&A with experts. This is for anyone interested in RCV, not just residents of Minneapolis.

If you read he article he has a history of criminal assault and violence charges. Not exactly the best representative for the 2nd Amendment supporters. You have to wonder exactly how easy it is to get a permit to carry a concealed pistol if this fruitcake has one.

Seems the country has taken on a big change since President Bush had people wearing t-shirts with slogans on them arrested at his speeches. Just this last summer during the GOP convention people got arrested for all kinds of things... none carrying two loaded and hidden pistols. I wonder if I had concealed and carried to the Republican Convention if I would have been treated so nicely.

What an idiot. I'm sure it makes him feel like a real man, carrying a gun outside a Presidential rally.

Heck, the guy with the gun is just an upstanding 'merican citizen. Who among us hasn't been in jail for assault? And if you are going to assault someone, it only makes sense to have a loaded gun with you in case you have to defend yourself from the person you are assaulting. Yup, another law abiding gun totin' 'merican standing up for freedom.

Oh, and if he hasn't been convicted yet? You mean, the police would haul someone off to jail for no good reason, like Professor Gates argued? Let's support our police, true believers. If this guy went to jail, he was guilty of assault. Period. Support the police, true believers.
