Republican Congressional challenger Brian Davis raised $291,601 in the second quarter of this year. The Mayo Clinic doctor, who is looking to unseat freshman Rep. Tim Walz, has pulled in $490,193 so far in 2008. He reported cash on hand of $376,719 at the end of June. Davis also provided the campaign with a $100,000 loan from his personal finances, bringing the total amount he’s contributed to the effort to $182,544. Among the other notable contributors: developer David Frauenshuh ($3,250, combined with his wife), Powerline blogger John Hinderaker ($300) and former Minnesota GOP party chair Ron Eibensteiner ($1,000).

Walz reported having more than $1 million on hand at the end of March. Candidates are required to submit their second-quarter filings to the Federal Elections Commission by July 15. Davis is the first Minnesota candidate to post his report.
