Politico reports there was a long, thoughtful pause after Walter Mondale was asked Wednesday if he agreed with Jimmy Carter that some criticism of President Obama is race-based. “Yeah” was his answer, when it finally came.
Mondale elaborated:
I don’t like saying it. Having lived through those years, when civil rights was such a bitter issue, and when we argued those things for years … I know that some of that must still be around. …
I don’t want to pick a person, say, he’s a racist, but I do think the way they’re piling on Obama, the harshness, you kind of feel it. I think I see an edge in them that’s a little bit different and a little harsher than I’ve seen in other times.
Mondale made the comments at the Washington, D.C., premiere of a documentary about him called “Fritz” (trailer) by Minnesota filmmaker Melody Gilbert. The movie grew out of her filming Mondale talking to a class at the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs, Gilbert tells The Hill. Mondale is “not braggy,” she says, and “never liked being on camera.” In Gilbert’s view, he is the patriarch of Minnesota’s version of the Kennedy family, but “low key.”

Racism was brought to its ugliest moment by Harry Anslinger back in the 30’s. He didn’t like migrant mexicans and the repressed blacks enjoying themselves after a hard day of usually hard labor. When is Obama going to stop THAT kind of racism? The institutional type? Probably never. Mondales knows. He REMEMBERS. I know too.
Regardless, I believe that the republicans of the political world are exposing their racism for the masses to see by being strident in their criticisms of Obama policies. DUH…

Are you kidding? why does everybody call it race if you disagree with Obama
Let’s look at the facts:
1 Obama went to Jerimy Wright’s church that preached anti American and White sentiment; Also Jeremy Wright is Obama’s Godparent to his kids
2. Obama stopped the missile shield in Europe to placate Russia; wait until Iran sends its nukes here! I hope the liberals get it first
3) Obama is trying to show our military interrogation techniques to the world..Great let’s show Iran how we build bombs
4) obama promised to work with the republicans; he has been horrible
Obama is all about socialism! I actually totally despise this guy and I’m not racist. My son’s best friend is black…. It really has to do with America’s future…Wake up America

White America still can not get there minds around the thought that “our culture” harbors racism. When criticism of racism is leveled the reflexive attitude is “not me”, but we share in that racism by not excising its influence and harping when efforts are made to compensate for it. President Carter and Vice President Mondale did not say that ALL, nor MOST criticism of Obama was race related, they said SOME. One should ask themselves in their response to such comments if they think it was aimed at them, then are they part of that SOME? If they are not truly part of that SOME they should acknowledge that there are others who are.

“Honest”: Your logic is perplexing. Nonetheless, it’s hard to argue there’s no racism against Obama.

Honest –
I am also having problems following your logic:
“3) Obama is trying to show our military interrogation techniques to the world..Great let’s show Iran how we build bombs”
What do interrogation techniques have to do with showing people how to build bombs?
“4) obama promised to work with the republicans; he has been horrible”
isn’t it the republicans that have said over and over that they didn’t need to read the bill, they weren’t going to vote for it anyway?
Your son having a friend who is black does not mean that YOU are not a racist or bigot.

Racism? No. We desire to obstruct Obama’s policies in every way. Who fires up the crowds at tea parties and the 912 rally? Black entertainers and pastors. “We will not bow down to Obama” Rev. C. L. Bryant. It is those that desire destroy our liberties and change us into a European country that we are fighting against politically.

You know who, picks a “spokesman” like a C L Bryant, who preaches to your choir and he’s the oracle from on high….won’t dare let him move in next door to you without a battle, but you’ll listen to his version of “God’s Love to all mankind”….I say, Mr Bryant, stay in the “soul-saving” business and leave politics to the politicians…you know, that “render unto Ceasar” thing, and why would he want to jump into that filthy fray and tarnish himself if the rewards weren’t worth the risk….and we’re not talking about heavenly rewards, either. I found it ironic he was “worshipped” by all the folks at the “march” with different skin tones, and practically none, if any, of his own hue…. but wondered just how many of them bothered to show up at his church services the following or subsequent Sunday mornings? You just can’t be selective at these things….go all out or not at all….That seems to be the way of the “tea-baggers” or whatever they call themselves this week….They’ve been other names before, and will undoubtedly be called others in the future…Be consistent, Mr Bryant, and you can also be believable too, at least at this end….
