Bachmann says ACORN is trafficking underage immigrants for sex

Picture 10In calling for a congressional investigation of ACORN, Rep. Michele Bachmann yesterday said “we have seen” that the poverty and housing group has been involved with “furthering the trafficking of illegal aliens, minor girls into childhood prostitution and child abuse.” But Bachmann’s confused — or willfully distorting the facts. It was filmmaker James O’Keefe — not ACORN — who, in his sting set-up of ACORN, claimed to be a pimp interested in starting a brothel to prostititute underage girls from El Salvador.

Here’s what Bachmann said:

And if a bill that went through this House actually passes, that would be $10 billion that is available to this organization, who we have seen has been furthering the trafficking of illegal aliens, minor girls into childhood prostitution and child abuse. This is unconscionable. And this same organization has been educating individuals that they should take their money and bury it in a tin can in the backyard rather than paying taxes.

Meanwhile, the quickly-passed “Defund ACORN” Act — which Bachmann co-sponsored — was written in such overly broad language that it could potentially defund military contractors. That prompts a question from journalist Jeremy Scahill at TruthOut: “Where’s the ‘Defund Blackwater’ Act?”

Hannah Giles told Juan Carlos Vera of an ACORN office in San Diego that she needed help protecting girls from a pimp.

She said, “the girls are coming this weekend, that’s why we’re in an emergency situation, that’s why we like ran in here for help, because I wanna get them before the pimp has time to bond with them and you know, herd them away.”

I vote for “willfully distorting the facts”.

The press has given Bachmann a free pass too often. You can’t choose “stupid” over “malicious” in all these incidents. Pick one.

Bachmann is certainly deliberately distorting the facts, but who knows what facts she “knows”? Anyone with half a brain would realize that very few people would believe this accusation. However, our big problem is that the constituents who voted Bachmann into office–twice–don’t have the slightest interest in the actual news and therefore don’t know what an idiot she makes of herself in public. All they care about is that she’s anti-abortion. Until an opposing candidate in this district (yes, sadly, I live in Bachmann’s district) runs likewise on an anti-abortion platform, there’s no visible hope of unseating her in an election.

But Sheph, we’ve got enough phony Dems in office….

I say keep her for the comedic value alone.

Earlier this summer, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) waged a high-profile, wildly-dishonest campaign against the Census. The Minnesota congresswoman said she was so worried about the threat of the government asking “very intricate questions” and collecting information that she would illegally refuse to fill out the form. “They will be in charge of going door to door and collecting data from the American public,” she said. “This is very concerning.” She repeatedly used inflammatory and fear-mongering rhetoric against the Census:

– “I think there is a point when you say enough is enough to government intrusion.” [6/25/09]

– “If we look at American history, between 1942 and 1947, the data that was collected by the census bureau was handed over to the FBI and other organizations, at the request of President Roosevelt, and that’s how the Japanese were rounded up and put into the internment camps.” [6/25/09]

“You will receive approximately six contacts from them [Census workers], either through phone calls or they will knock on your door. If you still do not give them the information, they said they’ll contact your neighbor to the left of you, to the right of you to get information.” [6/25/09]

Can we impeach Bachmann now for legitimizing the torture by Palestinian Hanging of a Federal worker?
