I was answering Candy’s question about whether an independent candidate might run. If you follow the link I provided, you’d read that Anderson indicated he probably wouldn’t run if the IP sticks with cross-endorsing. That is, if the IP endorses Clark or Reed, he’ll probably bow out of the race.

“I don’t want to get involved in that again,” he said of cross-endorsement in that piece. “I want the party’s support — I don’t want ‘anti’ support.”

What difference does it make if Bob Anderson gets endorsed or not? Anybody running as an Independent, endorsed or not, is likely to draw away votes from the challenger leaving the public being the only loser. The only way out of this box I can see is if the DFL or IP endorsed candidate to withdraw one day before the election so that it comes down to straight up-or-down vote on Bachmann versus “other.”

The point of what I was saying is that the district is not typical of MN. Tarryl Clark would be a viable state-wide candidate, in fact if I’m not mistaken she was considering a run for governor right? But we’re talking about CD6. Where liberal candidates who win by huge margins state-wide lose by huge margins.
Tinklenberg was a moderate candidate who ran a lack-luster campaign and nearly unseated Bachmann. Prior to Tinklenberg there was a consistent 8% margin of Republican victory in the district. A moderate candidate who runs an energetic and well-managed campaign will take Bachmann out this time.
I have no negative judgement on Tarryl Clark’s specific senate votes, but I guarantee you that a substantial and necessary portion of CD6 voters do. Sending Tarryl to the general is the perfect gift to Michele, it just ensures another 2 years for her in Congress AND we potentially stand to lose SD15 on top of that.

Rmath, if you have trouble with anyone who can’t spell “Minnesotans,” how about a candidate (Maureen Reed) who sends out a fund-raising appeal and misspells Bachmann’s names (both of em) three times in one email? I’m sure Maureen is a fine person but she is nowhere near the formidable candidate Tarryl Clark will be.

And what, exactly, is wrong with voting for tax increases to bring in the revenue needed to run this state the way it’s supposed to be run, MnBlue? Or is Maureen Reed advocating the Tim Pawlenty/Michele Bachmann “No New Taxes” approach instead?

Bob Anderson, who got 10 percent of the vote last time around, is considering running, but he won’t make it official until after the Independence Party’s October 10 Central Committee Meeting. If the IP does away with cross-endorsing — last time around they endorsed non-IPer Tinklenberg, leaving him to run as an unendorsed IP candidate — he’ll likely run.

Comments should be more focused on the subject and not on squabbling between commenter.
Does anybody know if there is an independent running in the sixth district?
I voted for Tarryl Clark for two elections but her 2009 voting has reflected steady voting for the democratic agenda.
She voted to raise taxes on the middle class (income of $31,000 per year income and up) to 6.5% in the 2009 senate.
She voted to spend $150,000 on a program that studies the destruction of the forest floor by Worms.
She voted for the lights on bill, which was a cop-out bill for the democrats that were unable to balance the budget on time.
She also voted to get paid her wage while she and other democrats held the state of MN in limbo.
Good thing the Governor had the guts to veto the bill that was full of outrageous spending and nothing cut to help MN have a balanced budget.
Tarryl Clark is not representing her constituent’s views but is representing her party’s agenda instead.
She no longer answers her email from her constituents, which she had done two years ago.
Her voting record shows she does not care about the people in the sixth district and if we elect her she will continue to betray our votes.
Both republicans and democrats have betrayed the voters.
Both parties need a strong message from the voters.
Vote for neither party if there is a choice and help take our state and country back to freedom and less taxation.
We live in a republic and the people are the rulers not the government.
Minnesotans are loosing their jobs.
Both parties need to join the unemployment line in 2010.
