excuse my words: my country was under a strict regime ruled by tirants, before it became democratic and now we are part of E.U..Just after 5 year that our indipendance war was won,we had a party too capitalistic and corrupt, had 50 seats and now haas only 6 in the parliament.Nobody voted them ... i said before as if our tirants became democratic and led us to E.U. :D Sorry,i hope you understood nontheless. I want to make sure, hence my explanation-correction.

American politics is a disgrace and the lack of social care for even your own is beyond belief.
Al Franken stands out like a sore thumb, but i think that wont be enaugh. In my county, before it was ruled by tirants and became truly democratic (now part of E.U.) had a similar big party. They were screwed when nobody voted them. They had something like 50 seats, now only 6.
The only way You,people from the other part of Atlantic, can change something is by not voting for certain people. Abolish the preferencial system of ellections (why must you have SUPER DELEGATES who can basicaly choose who will go to the ellection and who wont?). Ask for a more direct or the so called "participatorial democracy".
Social reforms does not mean Socialism (i know,i lived under false corrupted Socialism). Socialistic thinking in governments is only a term that describes the EQUAL share of pubblic services to all the people ,not only the "have mores". I dont believe in the modern description of Socialism ,since it is described equal to communism.
Well, these were my 2 cents... you will probably dissmiss it as crazy EU talking points. But i think my opinions have a higher bearing, since i lived under a tough regime that was overthrown.

I hope the best for your country. Stop the hipocrisy, start with something positive. Kudos to Al Franken.

No doubt, this amendment was neccessary. But why would it have to be attachmented to a bill such as defense spending? If it stood alone, the amendment could have passed with a major majority. I don't understand the votes a lot of times until I read the rest of the story. Now I know.

Thank goodness for Al Franken and the many rational followers of this paper.

People like John, who can suck my balls for ruining my good name but that's another story, are in the very scary minority right now.

Imagine a party that thinks that way.
Oh yeah, they're called the GOP.

I wish I could say the democratic party was the bastion of all that is right in the world, but I surely do hope that all the reasonable republicans and right leaning independent people vote for the right person for the right job like Franken in the future.

We all lose when the GOP gets to select it's members as has been evident for well over a decade now.
