A group of preteens head off to camp to train to be warriors for God. They train how to effect and take over the government, how to insert themselves into the personal lives of everyone around them. They offer to give up their lives for God. They pray for PowerPoint presentations.What?! In Jesus Camp that’s just what happens. An evangelical bible camp for kids in Devil’s Lake North Dakota is the setting for this documentary. The children are from very conservative families.
Before the camp the documentary goes into the homes of a couple of the children. Some parents home school the children saying things like evolution is stupid and creationism is the only thing that makes sense. At one home the children pledge alligance before lunch, to the Christian flag and the bible.
At the camp evangelical minister Becky Fischer leads the councelors before hand in rituals of blessing the seats, the building, the electricity, and even the PowerPoint presenation which she says is vulnerable to the Devil. The camp starts out by breaking the children down when Fischer accuses the children, many under 10, of sinning and having dirty thoughts, the children then sobbing come forward to be cleansed by bottled water.
