There were two National Conferences on Media Reform in Minneapolis over the weekend: the one I attended and the one Bill O’Reilly, Juan Williams and Fox News talking head Mary Catherine Ham didn’t. Monday’s segment of "The O’Reilly Factor" included a montage of attendees and speakers at the conference. The consensus from the panel? NCMR attendees are "dangerous" far-left activists bent on destroying America. Panelists variously called attendees "stridently anti-American," "the lunatic left," "fascists" and — in O’Reilly’s words — "obviously unstable people," and O’Reilly reported that Fox cameramen "felt like they were in physical danger" at NCMR. Apparently left on the cutting room floor was footage of Bill Moyers turning the tables on a confrontational "O’Reilly Factor" producer. Or, it goes without saying, views from the kind of people I met, from mainstream reporters to church-based peace advocates to activists working to get accurate representations of rural life into corporate media.

I hope Fox is paying Juan Williams a crapload of money. Also, he’s no Ray Suarez. ;^)
