Pawlenty also crows over success in haunting New York race

Picture_8_biggerGov. Tim Pawlenty tweeted in triumph after Republican endorsee Dede Scozzafava dropped out of New York’s special Congressional election.

Republican @DougforCongress now has clearest path to victory yet. Time for all to join the fight. #tcot #rs #biggovt

As with his endorsement of Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman, Pawlenty’s message followed an earlier statement by U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann.

Pawlenty criss-crosses the country lecturing GOP audiences about how to attract voters who are “not yet Republicans.” He sounds like he is talking about drawing independents and Democrats, but his backing for Hoffman suggests he intends to mine support from the vast reserves on the far right.

………..he intends to mine support from the vast reserves on the far right.

You’ve got to be kidding me? Right? This is snark. This is sarcasm. Because otherwise…..

Alternate – and in this case, correct – interpretation? He realizes that Hoffman is doing what Republicans need to; convince people in the middle to move right, rather than move to the center to get them.

(“Vast reserves?” Who knew?)

Re Mitch Berg’s observation that “Hoffman is doing what Republicans need to; convince people in the middle to move right ….”

Of COURSE! Here I was, stuck in the middle all these years …. what I should have realized is that people on the extreme right (and Hoffman IS one) have the stranglehold on truth, and we who are not there yet simply need to embrace their view. Conservative beliefs such as ….

Invading Iraq will be a cakewalk (not in uranium yellow either)
Torture is effective and doesn’t destroy our global moral standing
That you can deregulate financial markets and the participants won’t crash the economy because they have their own money involved
That you can cut people and costs to work your way out of recession so stimulus spending is wrong
That there’s no need for health care reform, other than denying harmed patients access to court to sue doctors who practice negligently
That there should be no limit on how much people can earn- even when the company crashes, nor how little (anti-minimum wage)

Seems like there is nothing that Pawlenty can’t collapse. A bridge. The state’s economy. A far-off election.
