It’s official: Hackett to challenge Rep. Paulsen

As expected, Dr. Maureen Hackett has officially entered the race to challenge Rep. Erik Paulsen in the Third Congressional District. A psychiatrist who served in the Air Force for seven years, Hackett announced her candidacy on her website and in an email to supporters.
“[I]t seems these days that the American dream is fading,” the Minnetonka resident wrote. “And without responsible, accountable, and informed leadership in Washington, this dream is in serious jeopardy for future generations. I am running for congress to restore these qualities to leadership, to raise up the middle class, and to make sure our children and grandchildren have even better opportunities than we had. I am running for Congress to revive the American dream and I ask for your support to do this.”
Last week, the Cook Political Report listed the seat as “likely Republican.” Early this month, fellow DFLer Jim Meffert also filed to run for the CD3 seat.

Has she explained why she donated so much money to the National Republican Congressional Committee back in 2004, and why she didn’t support the Democratic candidate for President in 2004?

MoN – source, please? Regarding the NRCC donations, you seem to be thinking of a Texan named Maureen Hackett.
Your point about who she supported in 2004 is interesting, though. Hackett supported Nader. This was after Nader arguably cost Gore the election in Y2K.

So? I was a life long Republican till George Bush stole the 2000 and 2004 elections. I like her opening statement and will follow her. I question her support of Nader but then I am frustrated with what the Dems have offered up and am seriously looking for a serious independent candidate to support. Watching the Dems in Congre$$ fumble around and get their aXX handed to them by the NEOCONS has convince me that my bumper sticker is right on. I reads ‘WE HAVE THE BEST CONGRE$$ MONEY CAN BUY’
