Barkley: Dobbs would be ‘perfect’ IP Party candidate for prez

Picture 7Could “Mr. Independent” — as Lou Dobbs promotes himself — become “Mr. Independence Party”? A Politico piece this morning ponders news that the illegal-immigration foe, Birther and former CNN anchor is considering a run for president in 2012. What’s not clear is what banner he might run under. Minnesota’s Dean Barkley, quoted by Politico, hopes it’ll be his Independence Party.

Lou Dobbs, I think, would be a perfect candidate for us,” said Barkley, the onetime senator who founded the Reform Party (now known as the Independence Party). “We were hoping he would have run last time.”

Anything could happen, as Barkley’s experience managing Jesse Ventura’s 1998 campaign attests. Also interviewed for the Politico piece: Ad guy Bill Hillsman, who lead communications efforts behind successful outsider campaigns by Ventura and the late Sen. Paul Wellstone. But Politico says neither Hillsman nor other “leading third-party operatives” have been contacted by Dobbs’ people — yet.

Not a chance.

The last thing any Independent wants is to be associated with anyone.

I’ll let the reader in on a little secret: The independent party really doesn’t exist.

in·de·pen·dent (ĭn’dĭ-pĕn’dənt)-Free from the influence, guidance, or control of another or others; self-reliant: an independent mind.

Ask Joe Lieberman if he wouldn’t mind being associated with Jesse “the body…” err, excuse me. Jesse “The Mind” Ventura. I’m sure you’ll get an emphatic “no” on that.

Besides, Dobbs wouldn’t work out on it. He comes off too much like a staunch Republican.

Don’t waste your time liar. I’m from New Jersey and most people on the state can’t stand your nonsense.

I have just lost a huge amount of respect for Barkley’s opinion on anything for his support of Dobb’s, a racist anti-immigration uninformed bigot of the first order.

This piece shows the emptiness of the Independence Party. Anyone can get the party endorsement, and if they’re famous enough to get media attention, so much the better. Platform? You’re neither a Democrat nor a Republican–the rest is just details to be filled in.

Dean Barkley should realize that there is more to building an effective party than getting someone to fill in the slots on the ballot. It’s no wonder that the Independence Party is on its way to becoming a punchline.
