Former Massachuetts Gov. Mitt Romney pushed back Sunday against Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty’s attacks on the Bay State’s health care system.Romney appeared on CNN’s “State of the Union.” Host John King baited Romney with a clip of Pawlenty slamming Massachusetts on a past edition of the same show (at about the 4:30 mark):
From CNN’s transcript:
KING: The cost of the program has been one of the questions in Massachusetts. And among the critics is a man you might see on the campaign trail should you decide to run again in 2012, the Minnesota governor, Tim Pawlenty. Listen to this. (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
PAWLENTY: If you don’t also contain costs and preserve quality, you’re in big trouble. And the federal proposal is largely modeled so far after what happened in Massachusetts. They succeeded in extending access, but the cost of that program has now double, triple, and some would say soon to be quadruple what they originally estimated. That would be a bad development for those of us who are concerned about the uncontrollable rise in health care costs. (END VIDEO CLIP)
KING: Does Governor Pawlenty have your plan right there?
ROMNEY: No, I’m afraid facts are stubborn things, and the Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation has taken a good look at the Massachusetts plan some three or four years after it was passed, and it is well within the original forecast. It’s about — a little over 1 percent of the state budget. And in fact, virtually all of our citizens are insured.
Romney continued: “And by the way, if other governors can come up with something better than I did, congratulations. We’ll copy one another.”
So, not a slashing attack on T-Paw by Romney, but neither did Romney’s comments show the kind of deference either man would expect as president, were he traveling abroad as Pawlenty was over the weekend.
Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, on the other hand, who is another GOP 2012 presidential prospect, showed solidarity with Pawlenty by giving out a phone sex number instead of a state toll-free number.
Pawlenty did something similar in September, mistakenly giving out a phone sex number instead of the call-in number for his weekly WCCO-AM radio talk show.

so …. do sex lines deliberately buy numbers close to those for high volume types, like public officials?

I like Tim Pawlenty – but I’m with Romney in 2012!

In order for someone to solve a problem, that person has to first be aware of it, and second have a desire to do something about it. Romney demonstrated both as Governor. America needs healthcare reform – not what Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi want – but we do need reform. Mitt Romney is the only Republican with any credibility on the issue. Romney 2012!

Romney respectfully worked across the aisle with his opponents, presented data and analysis, and convinced his opponents there was a way to address healthcare in MA. MA was a well-run State under Romney.
After Romney left, Devil Patrick (Democratic Governor after Romney), aborted the rules and undermined the intended plan. He lacked the will and discipline to operate the plan as it was intended, and made changes that dramatically ran up costs. Those errors need to be squarely at the feet of Governor Patrick, not attributing the overruns to the guy who was long gone when things went awry.
Romney is strangely unlike others in politics: He is actually competent to run an economy and create jobs. (Unfortunately, we are suffering because BO is utterly lacking in basic economic competency and understanding of where jobs come from. It will be a LONG four years under a President who is WAAAY over his head.

I own a mid-sized business in MA. When Romney was Gov, My taxes went down and my employees premiums went down as well. Romney didn’t stay long enough to tweak out any unforeseen problems. He vetoed the goodies that the MA legislature added LATER under Governor Patrick. The supposed problems with Romney’s health care program in MA are attributable to the changes made by the new governor – who has bloated it, over-regulated it and applied it to illegals. The cost of Romney care is less than 1.3% of the States budget. Patrick has chosen not to make Healthcare a Priority. If he would, the 1.3%, would be even less. Ma fiscal problems are a result of Patrick. He spends money like a kid in a candy store. In addition, Romney has stated that Individual states should determine health care issues in their states. This should not be mandated by Washington. a study was done recently shows that MA RESIDENTS still like the system. It seems MA HEALTH CARES biggest critics, DON’T LIVE IN MA!
