Parry apologizes for deleted tweets

Minutes before the scheduled start of a 3:15 Wednesday DFL press conference about state Senate candidate Mike Parry’s deleted tweets — including one in which he called President Obama a “Power Hungry Arrogant Black Man” — the Waseca Republican issued an apology. He claims his campaign volunteers erased the tweets without his knowledge.
Via Polinaut, here’s Parry’s full statement:
“I sincerely apologize for past tweets which were written in haste and out of the frustration I felt for the out of control spending in Washington. Given the fragile state of our economy and the kind of out of control and wasteful spending we’re seeing from Democrats, the people of Senate District 26 must have an election about the future. While volunteers to my campaign removed several tweets without my knowledge, I take full responsibility for all mistakes in my past tweets. I will never stop fighting to make the lives of all Minnesotans better.”
The apology comes after Parry defended the tweets yesterday. He stood by the Obama tweet, stating he should’ve added that the president is “angry,” and he told the Waseca newspaper that he didn’t write one of the posts which asked, “what’s with Dems and Pedophiles?”

I wasn’t a racist until frustration over high spending made me a racist. And I give campaign volunteers access to my twitter account. Come volunteer for me, and I’ll give you the password to my web site.

Parry’s statement: “I sincerely apologize for PAST tweets (let bygones be bygones) which were written in HASTE (I was under a strict deadline, apparently) and out of the frustration I felt for the out of control spending in Washington (I always lash out at arrogant black men who do all the spending).”
How about “I apologize for being an immature person who makes hasty judgments I later regret, and like a two-year-old, I can’t control my emotions when I get frustrated. I also apologize for feeling that a person’s skin color matters when I need to criticize someone. If this is the kind of person you admire, vote for me.”

He has no idea that, among sane voters, his credibility is shot. When the offensive tweets were discovered, he should have acknowledged writing them, but his best course of action would have been to not write them in the first place. He’s been outed for what he is: someone who uses race to score political points, and someone who will do/say anything to win an election.
