I distrust those who know so well what God wants them to do as it always seems to coincide with their own desires.

Good quote. It would be more compelling if G-d was telling these politicians to do something contrary to their own self interests. Much of Jesus' ministry seemed that way to me. Amazing to me how some people bring in the Ultimate Endorser to elevate their candidacy above all others.

All the Christofascists should remember that when YOU talk to God, you're praying, but when God talks to YOU, you're nuts!

How can you "believe" you're called by God? Wouldn't God make it plain? Sit you down and tell you about it, with a convincing demonstration of throwing lightening bolts if there's any uncertainty? Or instantly move you where he wants you to be, letting the impossible change of location show you that God must have done it, unless someone invented a Star Trek transporter? It just seems someone as powerful as God wouldn't have to rely on you figuring out subtle clues.

WestVillage states:

"Don’t you have anything better to do than to irrationally attack people you don’t even know?"

As an atheist I attack irrationality, be that in form of worshiping Odin, Zeus or our modern "God". Furthermore, Ms. Bachmann is a representative(and an embarrassing one at that) from my great state of Minnesota.

West Village,
I believe that people CAN get a calling from God. My problem with people like Palin, Steele, Bachmann, Gingrich, etc, is that although they say God inspired them to seek these positions and that they are "Christians," they do not live the lives of Christians. Everything they do is either for themselves, their friends, or big corporations. Jesus said give away all you own to the poor and follow HIM. They care little for the poor and disadvantaged. My Bible says that these are the people we should take care of. So, yes, I have a problem with them using Christianity for their own personal gain. They are the modern day Pharisees and Sadducees.

It's not such an odd thing for people to feel a "calling" or a "vocation", inspired by their connection with God. These comments are similar to anything you would read from George Washington, Abigail Adams, or thousands of ordinary folks trying to follow their conscience or spiritual hunches.
