“You too can have a show trial in the city of your choice if you come to America.” That’s the message President Obama is sending to “future terrorists,” according to U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, who criticized the administration’s handling of the case against 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.
Bachmann spoke on the floor of the U.S. House Wednesday:
Why would we give him his way by bringing him to New York City, at over $200 million a year taxpayer expense, to give him a show trial when he has already plead guilty and already asked to be executed? What happened? Did the president, did the attorney general say to Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, “Now wait a minute, you don’t want to plead guilty. Wait a minute, you don’t want to be executed. You want to come to New York City. You want to have the trial just like you asked for in the first place.”
In November, Attorney General Eric Holder promised that “the nation and the world will see him for the coward that he is. I’m not scared of what Khalid Sheikh Mohammed has to say at trial and no one else needs to be afraid either.”

Thank you, Chris. As a St. Cloud resident, I am keen to know all the idiotic things that come out of “pants aflame”Bachmann’s mouth. Keep it up!

Is she this dishonest, or is she really this ignorant of how the legal system works? Conservatives, are any of you really not embarrassed by her?

Where was Bachmann’s voice when The G. W. Bush Administration tried Jose Padilla, Richard Reid, the Blind Sheik, and others on U.S. territory in civilian trials? No terrorists attacked America during these trials. These men were convicted and are serving time in SuperMax prisons in this country. They’ll never be released from prison.
I never have an objection to anyone saying anything they desire, but I have a problem when politicians don’t tell our citizens the truth. Bachmann could have argued against holding KSM’s trial in NYC for her own personal reasons but decided to mislead. IMHO, this is shameful behavior for a politician. Although the U.S. Constitution states that members of Congress can say anything while they are in a session, when a politicians dishonors the privilege, the Constitution, the country, and our citizens, they dishonor everything America stands for. No wonder many Americans have little/no confidence in our government. Look at some of the politicians some people vote for. We should be electing our best, most qualified people, not people willing to advance their own careers at the expense of doing what is right for our citizens. I see a need for some serious ethics reform for our Congress, along with campaign finance reform. Many of our members of Congress are elected by citizens, but do the business of lobbyists and their corporate sponsors. This inevitably leads to corruption which, I think, is the reason for much of the unhinged rhetoric that comes out of the mouths of some of our national politicians.
EF–After much observation, I think some of the conservatives see her as a beacon of patriotism. I don’t get it, either because I see her as an agent of sedition, and her words/actions as bordering on treason.

It’s disappointing to hear a trained attorney and elected Representative in Congress to talk trash about the criminal justice system of the United States
don’t they usually toss out confessions obtained by torture? wasn’t this guy tortured?
don’t they usually run trials in the jurisdiction where the crime occurred, which included New York City?
