Coleman not running for governor

Former Sen. Norm Coleman quashed rumors of recent days that he’d be announcing a bid for Minnesota’s governorship, telling KSTP TV Sunday that he won’t be seeking the office this year. “I love Minnesota and I love public service,” he said in a statement posted on Facebook, “but this is not the right time for me and my family to conduct a campaign for governor.”
His full statement:
I love Minnesota and I love public service, but this is not the right time for me and my family to conduct a campaign for Governor.
Timing is everything. The timing on this race is both a bit too soon and a bit too late. It is too soon after my last race and too late to do a proper job of seeking the support of delegates who will decide in which direction our party should go. The commitments I have to my family and the work I am currently engaged in do not allow me to now go forward.
At the moment, I am tremendously energized by the work I am currently involved in to create a positive, center right agenda for this country. Anger on the left and anger on the right will get us nowhere. In Minnesota, we face a jobs deficit, a budget deficit and a bipartisanship deficit. We must all put aside the bitterness and sniping and remember that behind every job loss and every home foreclosure is a Minnesota family losing hope and confidence.
I think I can be part of recreating a more civil and respectful politics, a politics that better expresses the will of the vast majority of people. I will continue my efforts to work with Republicans, Independents and moderate, common sense Democrats across the country to advance the values of fiscal responsibility, entrepreneurship, effective government change, national security and respect for life. That’s where America is philosophically and we need well-thought-out policies that express it.

A victory for the IP party … no, not the Independence Party but the Ideology Pure party.
So what was the final nail in the Coleman coffin :
– Ron Eibensteiner’s OpEd
– the SD-15 fundraiser during which activists told him not to run
– the PublicPolicyPoll of Bachmann’s district that showed more voters (42%) have an unfavorable than favorable (41%) rating of Coleman
Now that the 800 pound gorilla has made his decision, will Anderson reconsider ?

Mr. Coleman did well to decline a bid for the office of Governor. His statement that he champions a “center right agenda for this country” confirms his holding of a view that has poisoned the Republican Party. As it is clear, particularly on the national level, that the liberals have no interest in compromise, this centrist thinking has, as evidenced by the 2008 elections, weakened the GOP. The recent resurgence of the call for a return to a more conservative approach to government does make the timing wrong for a run by Coleman to claim the chief executive position in Minnesota government.

RE: Norm Coleman. I had him on Flt. from DCA couple yrs back. Commented to him on his lack of concern for NWA employees and how they had gone to him for help. His reply to Mechanics & Flt. Att. was-not his problem and basically refused to help in any way. I warned him that day it was a poor choice-We are the everyday workforce! No more NWA but no more Coleman either.
