Obama on Supreme Court decision: A win for ‘big oil,’ special interests
Thursday, January 21, 2010 at 12:52 pm
President Barack Obama has responded to the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the ban on direct contributions by corporations to political campaigns, calling it a “green light to a new stampede of special interest money in our politics.” In a short statement, he said he’ll work with Congress to address the problem.
Today’s ruling — “probably the most sweeping and consequential handed down under Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr.,” according to the Los Angeles Times — was based on the rationale of conservative justices that corporations have the same First Amendment rights as individuals and, therefore, shouldn’t be prevented from spending to try to influence elections.
Obama’s statement:
With its ruling today, the Supreme Court has given a green light to a new stampede of special interest money in our politics. It is a major victory for big oil, Wall Street banks, health insurance companies and the other powerful interests that marshal their power every day in Washington to drown out the voices of everyday Americans. This ruling gives the special interests and their lobbyists even more power in Washington–while undermining the influence of average Americans who make small contributions to support their preferred candidates. That’s why I am instructing my Administration to get to work immediately with Congress on this issue. We are going to talk with bipartisan Congressional leaders to develop a forceful response to this decision. The public interest requires nothing less.

So, Obama whines about special interests?
What about pharma and insurance corporations that will gain by passing the “health reform” or gain if nothing is done?
What about the defense industry with the never-ending widening war that moves from Afgahnistan to Iraq to Afgahnistan to Yemen to Somalia to Columbia to Mexico?
What about the banks that are too big too not get all the money in the country?
What about the lack of energy policy that already benefits oil and coal corporations?
Face it, Obama is the combination of the worst of Hoover, LBJ, Nixon and G.W.Bush with a flannel mouth of “change”. This Supreme Court ruling is just business as “swift boat” usual.

My President and your President is rightfully concerned on what happened yesterday at the Supreme Court.
Make no mistake: this is Bushco & Friends influence still being felt. It is wrong for the American people to have to put up with this. We elected Mr. Obama to lead us, and he should be able to appoint at least a mojority of the Supreme Court so that every time he does something they are not striking him down.
Let’s push for Congress to change how we appoint judges to the Supreme Court. Then we can move forward in this country and make it a more sustainable and friendly place.
Republi-thugs are the party of “no”. Democrats are the party of “no limits on how much good we can do for our fellow man”.
