Tea Partiers respond to Bachmann cancellation

bachmann in coloReaction to Rep. Bachmann pulling out of the National Tea Party Convention in Nashville has been mixed. The organizers of the event had kind words to say about Bachmann, but at least one group of Tea Partiers gave the congresswoman a tongue-lashing this weekend. Bachmann, along with Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., pulling out of the convention citing ethics concerns.

Sherry Phillips, wife of event originator Judson Phillips, sent this email to reporters:

Congressmen Bachmann and Blackburn – Both Congresswomen have large targets on their backs and are rightfully concerned about backlash they will receive from the left-leaning Democrat controlled House Ethics Committee. Because of the complexity of the Ethics Code regarding House Representatives, we have no doubt the Democrats would have found something in that code to cause them problems once the convention was over. We were also informed by Rep. Bachmann that both were being told two different things by the House Ethics Committee in regard to their participation.

This of course sent up red flags to everyone involved. We do not blame either Congressman for their decision to withdraw from the convention and maintain a strong relationship with them both.

However, the Asheville, North Carolina, Tea Party was very disappointed in Bachmann’s cancellation.

As someone who paid out of my family’s personal budget to attend this event, I have to say that I am deeply disappointed in Rep. Bachmann’s decision.

Are we liberty loving capitalists or aren’t we? Tea Party Nation is a for-profit corporation. They have organized what, for all appearances, will be a well attended, well executed conference. Does it strike anyone else as a little odd that Rep Michele Bachmann, a woman known for her embrace of the free market and individual liberty, would back out of this event due to concerns that the ticket price is too high?

This event has been much maligned, not unlike every other step of this movement. Bachmann has dealt us a blow, but as usual, we will soldier on. Ultimately, I believe the damage will be to her credibility, not ours.

Dear Rep Blackburn,

As a voter that voted FOR you, I am disappointed that you will not be attending the tea party in OUR (YOUR) state. These have become a means of people that do not agree with administrations (President Obama and more) policies to speak out. You could hear more from America in this one event than in all others. I have to question your commitment to the republican party and conservatism. ANYONE can use the ethics excuse…….the strong can stand up for what they believe. Just because it is not popular and you were “Chewed own” for saying you would is no reason NOT to Stand Up for our party, our principals and YOUR constituents. ALL you have to do is make a short appearance to let us know where you stand.

Continue to stay at home during the unpopular events. We will keep you home in the next election as well. We are really disappointed in you.

Sincerely,

Ron

Hey Blackburn: When did ethics every concern the GOP. You voted for tax cut without paying for them. Same goes for two wars and a prescription drug policy. Now You Lie about who’s really to blame for the mess we’re in.

Must be great to be with the GOP. Fuck up, and the idiots who voted for you not only will do so again, they’ll blame someone else for your mistakes. An ethical person would take responsibility for their actions.

Scary, huh?

These people do not have the courage of their convictions. This is why Bachmann was too scared to show up at a meeting where the Repubs had Barack outnumbered 140-1, and still got their asses kicked by O. Republicans are the biggest pussies I have seen in my 45 years.

It makes me sick whenever I hear Blackburn speak (or Bachmann, or Foxx, or Palin, or any of the other Crazy Republican Women the nation is plagued with just now). It would be impossible for me to disagree more with her statements or to be more put off by her terrible attitude.

Whether or not Blackburn speaks to a bunch of angry, clueless people matters less to me than the offense that her continued existence as a “leader” represents.

Ron says: These have become a means of people that do not agree with administrations (President Obama and more) policies to speak out.

Really? You guys were speaking out against George W Bush’s administration when? Surely you can provide details right? Because you guys keep on whining about Obama’s spending and yet I don’t remember you guys complaining about Bush’s spending, which dwarfed anything Obama has come up with, nor were you guys complaining about the massive debt and deficit that the previous adminisration piled up. You guys were silent then and the only reason you’re not silent now is you’re annoyed that the country dared to elect a Democrat to the Presidency.

This is why I predict the Tea Party will end up fracturing the GOP into complete impotence. The Democrats will sweep state after state while the Republicans snipe at each other with nonsense like this. How pathetic.
