bachmannpawlentyConservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) organizers announced on Twitter Thursday afternoon that Rep. Michele Bachmann will be speaking at its annual conference in late February and will be introduced by Minnesota blogger Ed Morrissey. Bachmann joins Gov. Tim Pawlenty, who will also be speaking at the conference.

As City Pages notes, the conference has generated some controversy because of its sponsorship by the John Birch Society. The Society’s historical opposition to civil rights has generated criticism across the political spectrum.

Religious right groups have begun pulling out of the conference because GOProud, a conservative gay-rights group, is among the event’s cosponsors.
