Emmer gains Tea Party backing of voter ID bill
Tuesday, February 09, 2010 at 3:08 pm
Rep. Tom Emmer introduced a bill last Thursday mandating photo identification in order to vote in Minnesota. Emmer, a Republican candidate for governor, has gained the support of the Tea Party on the bill.
The bill would create identification cards that voters would apply for at county auditors’ offices.
“This would help to lessen the voter fraud in MN and keep our elections honest,” an email from the Minnesota Tea Party Patriots said. The group is urging Tea Partiers to contact their representative in order to get the bill passed out of committee.
Republicans have been trying –unsuccessfully– for years to tighten Minnesota’s voting laws. Minnesota has the highest voter turnout in the nation and outside observers have noted the elections here are also among cleanest in the country.

Are there any documented instances of voter fraud in Minnesota that involve the lack of a photo ID? If so, how many? This bill sounds like a solution looking for a problem.

Typical Republi-thug move. Smash the little guy and then give yourself a tax cut while you are patting yourself on the back.
These people are racist through and through.

So the party that is based on a name that is the symbol of the right to representation is in support of restricting the opportunity for people to vote. Huh, that makes a lot of sense. Sounds more like something King George would support.

Credit where due, Minnesota had a great record, prior to the recount mess in the Senate contest. The recount suggested areas where our statutes might be improved. As an election judge, I would welcome the photo ID. You know, one person, one vote.

Yeah, what a meanie for making sure that Bob Smith really IS Bob Smith. How dare he want to confront the very real problem of voter fraud! Got to keep open the Mark Richie/Al Franken form of election theft.
“Republi-thug”. Wow. Put down the crack pipe.

This shakes the ACORNs right off the tree! If IDs are required to vote, the opportunity for the dead to vote will be somewhat limited.

And your evidence that ACORN has ever gotten the dead to cast votes, Dennis?

Well tea baggers also want to bring back literacy tests for voting, so this is probably the least you can expect.

With voter ID, Minnesota will have even *cleaner* elections. ID of voters will be verifiable, and illegals who move into the state with a drivers license from another state will have to prove their status other than with a license and utility bill – this is a loophole that needs to be closed.

Show your ID. Why the outrage? You have to show it to buy certain products why not show it for something that will affect our lifes? Elections are the very fabric of our great nation. Let’s do all we can to make sure they are legally held.

Want to vote? Show your identification. Please drive through. Literacy test – yes. How can you choose Yes or No, Him or Her, D or R if you can’t read? Would it such a hardship to ask someone to understand what they are voting on? DOH! I forgot the nitwits who vote on million page bills that don’t read or understand them. Ok I exaggerated a bit but my point was made.
To Tim, Knock off the Tea Bagger BS. Grow up.
