Some public opinion numbers pertaining to the Joe Biden pick: In the CNN/Opinion Research poll released yesterday–the first survey taken entirely after the selection of Biden as Barack Obama’s running mate–McCain and Obama are tied 47-47 in a survey that Obama led by 7 points, 51-44, a month ago.
And today’s Gallup tracking poll, covering the three days that followed the Biden announcement, shows McCain leading 46-44 among registered voters.
An ABC/Washington Post poll (conducted before the Biden announcement, but containing Biden questions) has Obama leading McCain 49-45 among likely voters. Regarding Biden, ABC’s Gary Langer writes, “Thirteen percent in this poll, conducted Tuesday through Friday, said they would be more apt to support Obama if he picked Joe Biden, as announced Saturday; but about as many, 10 percent, said it would make them less likely to support Obama — and 75 percent said it would not make a difference.”
