Bachmann’s health care statements rate ‘false’ at Politifact

Appearing with Rep. Alan Grayson on Larry King Live on Thursday night, Rep. Michele Bachmann said that President Obama’s health care reform plan would not bring down the costs of health care for average Americans. On Friday, Politifact evaluated her comment and ruled it “false.”
Bachmann said, “President Obama’s bill won’t bring down the costs (of health care) for average Americans — or really for very few Americans, if any.”
Politifact checked with the nonpartisan Congressional Budgeting Office and, on Friday, found that her claim does not stand up to scrutiny.
Using the strict, unsubsidized figures, 60 percent of Americans in the private insurance market should see their premiums fall. And taking into account the subsidies, a full 70 percent would see their premiums fall. And almost 94 percent would see their premiums either fall or stay the same. No matter how you slice it, the overwhelming majority are likely to see a decline. So we find her claim False.

Article I of the Constitution gives members the right to say whatever they want to say in debates during sessions of Congress, but it does not cover their lying to the American people outside of Congress. I don’t know about anyone else, but it bothers me when members of Congress lie to us for political and/or personal gain and call themselves Christians at the same time. IMHO, this is the reason many Americans are so uninformed on policy issues. It should be against the law for members of Congress to lie to us. It’s wrong, and there’s no excuse for them doing it. Lying wouldn’t be necessary if they would actually be committed to working on solutions to our problems instead of making stuff up to cover for their unwillingness to do the work that is required.

It seems it is the duty of all republicans to lie and say no until they get the population so frustrated that the only people that will vote is there selected minority. the selected minority being the wealthy and the right wing cristians.

It is foolish to beleive that the cost will go down because of subsidies. We pay our taxes wich fund those subsidies, so only those who don’t pay their share will benefit. They will see their cost go down, and even if your percieved cost goes down, you have to realize that a portion of your taxes went to give you that imaginary savings. The only thing government is good at doing is spending what it is given and allways asking for more. We have not had a free market health care system for more than 50 years, and back then you could have your apendix out with three days in the hospital, total cost less than 100.00. Today that would be equal to about 1000.00

Read Nick Coleman’s column in the Sunday StarTribune (www.startribune.com). He talks about how the left needs to recognize that people are angry, and to focus that anger…because what people are really angry about is how the right has been ttreating them, but the left is trying to take the high road, and as a result the only people actually trying to channel and use populist anger are the ones who actually made everyone angry in the first place…

steve that is a ridiculous comment. 50 years ago you would have spent 10 days in the hospital after an appendectomy. What orifice did you pull your numbers out of?
