About 1,000 people gathered at the Minnesota State Capitol lawn Saturday to hear Rep. Michele Bachmann speak out against health care reform. Billed as the “Kill the Bill Rally,” Bachmann railed against a “government takeover” of all aspects of the economy and compared Barack Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez.

“Some have called President Obama the first post-American president,” Bachmann said. “Certainly this health care bill would be our first postmodern legislation where words mean absolutely nothing.”

While other speakers took the podium, Bachmann was easily the crowd favorite, and her supporters waved signs reading “Obama Lies, Babies Die,” “Damn this federal government to hell,” “Obama bin Lyin’” and “The citizens must declare war on their immoral, corrupt, Marxist government.”

“Obama’s idea is for Pelosi to pass a bill and have her members vote on something they never voted for. Sounds more like a Chavez tactic in Venezuela,” said Bachmann. “We have a duty to resist tyranny. This isn’t a joke. They can’t do this. The government is working against us. They are not working for us, and they got it all backwards. They work for us. We don’t work for them.”

“All I am doing in Washington is my job. And I’m in trouble every day of the week in the media in Minnesota, but it’s because I’m doing my job!” Bachmann said.

shovehealthcareBachmann praised veterans both past and present. “And these men had guts our founders, these were no pantywaist wusses, and neither are we by the way!”

arrestpelosiShe continued to rail against Pelosi and Obama. “They don’t scare us. They aren’t going to take our country. This is dictatorial is what they are doing.”

Bachmann wasn’t the only politician at the rally. Rep. John Kline gave brief introductory remarks. Congressional candidate Barb Davis White, addressed the crowd, while gubernatorial candidates Tom Emmer and Marty Seifert stood on stage alongside Bachmann.

Bachmann wrapped up her 27-minute speech by saying, “Mark my words, the American people are not going to take this lying down. We aren’t going to play their game. We aren’t going to pay their taxes.”

The UpTake recorded Bachmann’s full speech:

Chavez demonizes individualism, private enterprise, and free markets…

Sounds about right. First its fascism, then they start to nationalize…

Chavez and obama are so anti-liberal especially economically. Its the religion of government. They force you to be part of their collectivist church….

“Liberalism and capitalism address themselves to the cool, well-balanced mind. They proceed by strict logic, eliminating any appeal to the emotions. Socialism, on the contrary, works on the emotions, tries to violate logical considerations by rousing a sense of personal interest and to stifle the voice of reason by awakening primitive instincts.” Socialism p. 460 Ludwig von Mises (1922)

I would love to take a survey and see how many of the attendees of that rally are consumers of VA, Medicaid, or Medicare health care systems. Every one of them according to Bachmann are evil government run health care. I some very avow Republican friends that speak out about the evil government takeover of health care, but have no issues with their daughter consuming Medicaid to deliver their grandson. Hypocrisy at it’s best.

Great comparison, 0bama to Chavez. If the rules that govern your country don’t allow the control you desire, change the rules!

Why aren’t teabaggers rallying for the abolition of Medicare? Do they support government-run health care or don’t they?

The US is an EMBARRASSMENT. Right from National Geographic, which to these momos it must be “communist central” I guess:

Not quite sure what these crazies are screaming about. They must be either corporate stooges or simply just dumb enough not to realize that being raped by the insurance companies has nothing to do with freedom.

The insurance companies RAISE fees by almost 39% on the WEAKEST of the population not even two weeks and THESE Americans are defending them?

“raped by the insurance companies has nothing to do with freedom.”

more false claims “scare” tactics…..who do you think is going to raise there rates when the Government runs your health care?? At least you have a right to not pay the insurance company…You gonna do that to the Gov, when they raise taxes and cut survice??

calling people names is your ingorance, when you have no facts.

If you want to pay for everyones “insurance” there is no one stoping you…But I dont see any of the “Obamacare” supporters doing so….

Anthem Blue Cross in California is the case where rates were hiked 39 percent. The company is increasing rates by 23% in Maine and 12-13% in New Hampshire, and in Iowa Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield proposed an average 18% hike, which was delayed by the governor.

I don’t understand why Rep Bachman isn’t censored. I don’t care if she is against Democrat bills, but she should be censored for her words of violence. She makes outrages remarks and incites violence.

She should be a Conservative Radio host if she wants to be a shock jock and not a Representatives. She is so unprofessional and an embarassment to the state of Minnesota.

Notice the people in the video with NoObama shirts, and the logo of 1280 the Patriot.

So even with a corporate radio station and a corporate backed “think tank” backing the event.. all they could get was 1000 (maybe) people?

what a joke. and they try and convince people it is grassroots.

Just another astrotuff event.

Bachmann is the scariest person in politics today because she does not use either of her brain cells to think. She is the best argument against intelligent design I have ever heard of. I live in Minnesota and I do not know who scares me more – Bachmann or Pawlenty. Do not vote for them, do not take them seriously or we will be in more trouble than you can imagine, our freedoms and our money will both be gone.

Breeze – I’m wondering, have you talked to your friends and family about your wish for them not to consume any government health care services. And yes, I’m serious in this question. If you truly believe that health care offered by the government is the downfall of our nation, all similar patriots must stand up and not consume these public services such as Medicare and Medicaid plus advocate to others to do the same.

I’m not even going to mention other government services that also fall into many peoples definition of socialist such as police and fire which in the past were private and required people to pay monthly for their services. Don’t pay the raised fire defense costs, your house is allowed to burn. Consider it fire and crime insurance.

The United States is the only industrialized nation that doesn’t have some form of universal health care. We pay 3 times as much as those countries for access. I’ll be the first to admit we have awesome doctors and hospitals. That isn’t the issue, the problem is access. And if you can’t afford access that is the same as a death panel since only the rich can get access to that great care. The middle class and poor end up with rationed or denial of health care.

And to add another statistic. In some areas like up state Michigan many have to drive an hour or more for delivering a baby or pre/post natal care. The reason is that all the hospitals in 16 counties have closed their OB departments due to people being uninsured and unable to pay for delivering their babies. They have the highest child/mother mortality rate in the US. If they mothers had insurance and could cover the hospital costs, the outcomes would improve due increased accessibility.

It’s funny that Bachmann didn’t speak out as vociferously when the G. W. Bush tax cuts were pushed through Congress using reconciliation, tax cuts that helped only the top 1-2% of us. If the folks at this rally think she has their best interests in mind, they’d better think again. She’s in the 1-2% income category and could care less about what their lives are like other than to use them to push her own agenda. I wish these people would use Vote Smart to actually see how willing she has been to go to bat for them.

Attendance: No way was it under 1000, probably closer to 2000.

I love M. Bachmann – and those who actually attack the spending side of the equation and don’t just try to figure out ways to increase tax revenue.

As for the snarky comments that republicans should not take anything from the government lest they be hypocrites. That’s ridiculous. I oppose the social security system, but I am going to collect it when I retire (if it still pays anything out). I’d be *much* happier if I could keep the money that I pay in payroll taxes and invest it myself, but because the government forces me to be a part of their giant ponzi scheme, I will accept the negative real rate of return they will give me on my money. You expect me to be appreciative for that? Sorry!

God bless Michele Bachmann. She is absolutely right about what she says. Obama and his agenda want to destroy our country. This is not about healthcare from Obama it is about control, government control over the lives of Americans.

Eric

Wild Thing writes that “This is not about healthcare from Obama it is about control, government control over the lives of Americans.”

Talk to many conservatives and you hear this paranoid refrain again and again. Forget the mountains of studies, statistics, white papers and analysis of our health care system over the years. Forget that we pay an enormous amount for our health care, more than any other country, and our results aren’t as good as those of many other countries. Hundreds of thousands of Americans are bankrupted by the private health insurance system, which would be unheard of anywhere else.

The same paranoid non-thought applies to global warming, the scientific theory of evolution and gay rights. There’s no underlying principle, science or knowledge at work. It’s all, apparently, about cabals of secularists/liberals/Marxists/fascists trying to find sneaky ways to wrest freedoms away from good, hard workin’, church goin’ patriots. Heck, you can still quite easily find right-wing cranks on the net decrying feminism as a communist plot.

Wild Thing (???) says: “This is not about healthcare from Obama it is about control, government control over the lives of Americans.”

So, then, we may assume that Wild Thing is pro-choice, and has no objection to doctor-assisted suicide? Those are two of THE most intrusive instances of government control over the lives of Americans.

Profit margins of insurance companies are 2%. Good luck getting that out of your utopian socialized medicine. Lefties have been killing babies for decades. Now they’re after everyone else.

About the Vid:
Michele Bachmann comparing our President to Chavez for using a tactic also used by Republicans many times in the past seems odd. Calling our President the “first post-American president” shows how un-American Bachmann is.

Pawlenty seems to be squirming in the background.

Thanks to the UpTake!

Where will they go with socialized medicine?

The system needs repair, not more government control.
