Bachmann: Democrats are going to ‘profane the Sabbath’
Friday, March 19, 2010 at 4:44 pm
In an interview with radio host Michael Savage on Thursday — where Savage insinuated that Obama is a Muslim and Michele Obama is fat — Rep. Michele Bachmann said that if the health care reform vote happens on Sunday Democrats will “profane the Sabbath.” She also incorrectly states that health reform would force taxpayers to pay for abortions.
“For people who are Christians this is the Easter season called Lent and on Sunday, on the Sabbath, they’re going to force pro-life democrats to take a vote on the Sabbath to force all Americans to pay for other people’s abortions against their will and violate their moral conscience,” she said. “They are going to profane the Sabbath.”
According to a fact-check by MSNBC:
the Senate bill explicitly ensures that Americans who receive federal subsidies under the reform plan must pay separately for abortion coverage. Here’s pages 2,074-2,075: “In the case of a plan to which sub paragraph (A) applies, the issuer of the plan shall collect from each enrollee in the plan (without regard to the enrollee’s age, sex, or family status) a separate payment” that “may not estimate such a cost at less than $1 per enrollee, per month.”
…
states can choose NOT to offer abortion coverage in the health exchange. Page 2,069: “A State may elect to prohibit abortion coverage in qualified health plans offered through an Exchange in such State is such State enacts a law to provide for such prohibition.” And those states that do not prohibit abortion coverage must provide a choice of health plans on the exchange that include abortion coverage and don’t include abortion.

Who is responsible for this strange female’s behavior?
I am an adult, but if I behaved in this fashion, my parents would still slap my lying face and tell “Sit down and shut up until you have something to say.”

Michele Bachmann is a couragous woman and a true patriot. Those who cannot see this are spiritually and morally blind or bankrupt. Pelosi, Reid, and Obama et al are the stealers of liberty. If this bill passes, you will see that Ms. Bachmann was right about everything.

Exerpts from a Newsmax article. Norah O’Donnell, MSNBC proves again it is in the tank of slime…
O’Donnell took the congressman to task, quoting an Associated Press analysis of the bill published Friday that stated in part: “No health plan would be required to offer coverage for abortion. In plans that do cover abortion, policyholders would have to pay for it separately, and that money would have to be kept in a separate account from taxpayer money. States could ban abortion coverage in plans offered through the exchange.”
In response, Stupak directed researchers to peruse pages 237 and 2,071 of the Senate bill that members of the House have been asked to approve.
“Read it and you will see. No. 1, it says at least one policy — it could be nine or 10 policies — must have abortion in it. Secondly, the federal government will give refundable tax credits to pay for the policy. This isn’t a tax deduction. This is a refund to pay for the coverage that has abortion in it,” he said.
Now if this bill doesn’t provide coverage, then why aren’t the abortions lovers whining…. It does

Hey! I’ve got news for you, Irish_Wake. Even if they do nothing on the Sabbath except vote on it, they are profaning the Sabbath! Get out the Bible: “Remember the 7th day to keep it holy.” That means no work, no deception, no corruption, no defiling the Constitution, no cheating, no bending the rules, no lying, no s**t!
You may be an adult, but you think like a mentally challenged imbecile.

Our President has also stated that taxpayers would not pay for abortion coverage. But according to FactCheck.org that information does not ring true: “The truth is that bills now before Congress don’t require federal money to be used for supporting abortion coverage. So the president is right to that limited extent. But it’s equally true that House and Senate legislation would allow a new “public” insurance plan to cover abortions, despite language added to the House bill that technically forbids using public funds to pay for them. Obama has said in the past that “reproductive services” would be covered by his public plan, so it’s likely that any new federal insurance plan would cover abortion unless Congress expressly prohibits that.” It took me 1 minute to find this out. Maybe they are just too busy at The Minnesota Independent to look at more than just one website for their facts.

1 Another time he went into the synagogue, and a man with a shriveled hand was there.
2 Some of them were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath.
3 Jesus said to the man with the shriveled hand, “Stand up in front of everyone.”
4 Then Jesus asked them, “Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they remained silent.
5 He looked around at them in anger and, deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts, said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was completely restored.
6 Then the Pharisees went out and began to plot with the Herodians how they might kill Jesus.(Mark 3:1-6)
Of course, it all depends on whether you interpret “Sabbath” as meaning Saturday or Sunday. I suspect that loon Bachmann has no clue which interpretation she prefers (or the difference between them), or that taking a vote on Sunday is not a profanation of any sort.
She just knows to throw around vaguely Biblical terms to get the Freepers and Teabaggers in a froth, for reasons they can’t clearly define, but that have to do with that Kenyan Communist secret Muslin uppity you-know-what in the White House.

Republicans had no problem with voting on Palm Sunday in 2005 to intervene in the Terry Schiavo case. None of them were whining about the Sabbath then. Regardless, the last I checked we had a secular government with secular laws (remember, Michele? You swore an oath to uphold the Constitution, which you seem to have forgotten), so what difference does it make on what days they vote?

Chayanov, you ignorant! In the Terri Schiavo case it was biblically allowed to break the Sabbath since it was a life at stake (Terri’s). The Lord Jesus criticized the Pharisees for using the Sabbath as an excuse to do good. It is OK, to break the Sabbath to save a life; it is not OK to profane the Sabbath to destroy the U.S. It is not OK to break the Day of the Lord to pass a bill that will pay for abortions galore. That’s what Michele Bachmann was referring to.

this so called Mao-bamey Care has nothing to do with health care (illegals and tort lawyers are bankrupting the system yet no relief in bill)but is all about government control of the people from the cradle to the grave,it is all about the greatest generation having kids who turned out to be the worst generation. You religious zealots out there crack me up. Chayanov said it exactly…it’s never wrong “when we do it!” So follow you book to the letter…on Sunday, go to your church. But don’t go out shopping afterwards, because now you are supporting those sabbath breakers by fueling their choice to work on Sunday (most of the time its not by choice). Those doughnuts sitting there for sale after mass sure look good but, don’t buy those either! People actually woke up real early on Sunday to make those for you for profit so…buying those would also be supporting their sabbath breaking ways. Hey truth hurts. But its your rule so shut the hell up and follow it already. Leave the rest of us at peace to enjoy our Sundays.
On another note…how the hell can Al Franken and Michele Bachmann come from the same state? Minnesota contains a wide range of extremities for sure.

As an outside observer I have to say the whole recent debate over health care in the United States has been one of the most pathetic spectacles I have ever seen. A steady stream of lies from your politicians (Sarah Palin stand out as the worst), an ignorant ill-informed public, and a media that has from the start had zero interest in covering actual issues. The sad truth is that it in the long rug it does not matter if this legislation passes as you won’t be able to afford it anyway. All lies.

They are not breaking the Sabbath unless they vote on Saturday, and that would only be Joe Lieberman (unless there are some Adventists in there?)–the rest keep Sunday, which is not Sabbath. So, no problem.
Comment posted March 20, 2010 @ 6:53 am
From my perspective, attempting to draw God into this debate is blasphemous. Taking the Lord’s name in vain means more than simply not saying “G-damn this” or “JHC that”. It means not presuming to speak on behalf of, or interpret the will, of God. To invoke His divine authority on your own behalf is the true sin.
And as for calling yourself a “patriot”, that’s another, special brand of arrogance. The men and women who fought to free the Colonies from England risked losing everything-including their lives in public execution. Colonial soldiers WALKED to every battle, slept outdoors for years, and often ate only once a day. To equate pathetic behavior as exhibited by those like Bachmann with the historic patriots and founders of our nation is insulting to their memories. Opposing the concept of being forced to contribute more to society through taxes when you’ve enjoyed the benefits of society your entire life (public education, rule of law, safe food and water, roads and bridges to start with) doesn’t make you a “patriot”.

Jesus never advocated government coercion in the name of charity. In fact, Jesus preached to the individual the value of private charity and goodness. Also, the Founders knew that our rights are derived from God, the Creator. This fact is denigrated by the Democrats’ claim that medical care “is a right.”
Walter E. Williams wrote this a while ago:
“James Madison is the acknowledged father of the Constitution.
In 1794, when Congress appropriated $15,000 for relief for French refugees who fled from insurrection in San Domingo (now Haiti) to Baltimore and Philadelphia, James Madison said disapprovingly, ‘I cannot undertake to lay my finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents.’
Today, at least two-thirds of a $2.5 trillion federal budget is spent on ‘objects of benevolence.’ That includes Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, aid to higher education, farm and business subsidies, welfare, etc., ad nauseam.”
When the government claims rights to goods and services, then it means that someone has to provide for that right. If everyone quit working there would be no medical care, so could medical care still then be claimed as a right? When a few select politicians start doling out rights to goods and services, it means that they are playing God. Truth be told, our rights come from God, not from Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama. They are perverting the spirit of America and its noble ideas.

Christians whose beliefs are based on the Bible (rather than man’s muddy stream of teachings: “teaching for doctrines the commandments of men”) know that the sabbath is the 7th day, and Easter is an extra-biblical, pagan celebration sprinkled with Rome’s water. Nevertheless, and in spite of doctrinal errors, Bachmann’s complaint over a Sunday vote on the heinous, unconstitutional bill will be well received by the spiritually lukewarm masses.
Perform the vote; any day of the week. While it’s grievous, the systematic dismantling of the former USA is not entirely surprising. “…[F]or such things must needs be.”

Of course abortions will be covered in this bill. That is one of the principle planks. The language of this convoluted and ambiguous piece of trash legislation isn’t understood by anyone, it is like tax law and just as complicated.
This isn’t about health care, it is about the Democrats getting their way at any cost, … while they still can.

I’ll just leave this here:
Matthew 12:9-13:
And when he was departed thence, he went into their synagogue:
And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him.
And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?
How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.
Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other.

Neither the House nor the Senate bill allows the use of federal money to pay for abortions. The Hyde Amendment has been in existence since @ 1976, shortly after the SC decided that a woman has the right to decide whether to have an abortion or not (Roe vs. Wade.) Also, the current bill has the approval of a council of Catholic nuns who had their legal advisers review the bill. The nuns have stated that the bill doesn’t allow government funds to be used for abortion. I wouldn’t expect that a group that values the sanctity of life would lie, but I would expect some politicians, pundits, and teevee news entertainers to lie for personal/political/economic gain because they do it all of the time.
Covering reproductive services, Tony, refers to the fact that some insurance companies can offer abortion services as part of a coverage package, but there will be a SEPARATE account set up into which a woman would pay a minimum of $1 per month for this coverage. This is different because the woman personally pays into the account, NOT the government, therefore no government funds would be used to pay for abortion. This is what you and Politifact are referring to. I hope this has been helpful. MMFA is a good site to get an understanding of what is in the bill in plain English.

They blindly follow this psychotic lunatic Bachmann, who believes what she says is the literal truth. I’m not sure whether this woman should be placed in a mental hospital or a prison.
If people would read and make up their own minds, they’d see that Michelle Bachmann is a bigger threat to this country than insuring that my son can continue to get health care when he’s older despite any medical condition he picks up, or that my daughter won’t get dropped from her insurance in the future simply for getting pregnant. If you don’t think that’s impossible, look around – and then remember that Michael Savage’s only job is to MAKE MONEY, which he can only do by PISSING PEOPLE OFF. To make some show of force to show how right they and she are and what a bunch of “mentally challenged imbecile(s)” or how “spiritually and morally blind or bankrupt”, we who find her to be a lying, bigoted nut-job totally unfit and unqualified to hold public office.
I’m always amazed at self-proclaimed Christians who have no difficulty seeing the motes in their neighbors’ eyes and cannot see the beams in their own. That’s why it’s so hard to walk the walk. All this talk about “profaning the Sabbath”. That’s about as lame and pathetic of an objection I’ve ever heard. Not counting the commnts above. You know your arguments aren’t winning when you stoop to that kind of rhetoric. That and equating progressives with socialists and communists and violating the Constitution. It’s the same people who make comments like that who complain about paying taxes and then complain when their favorite service gets shut down or their Social Security check is late. Always playing the victim, always complaining.
I’d be pleased to hear some rational discussion about the negatives to the health care reform being proposed. You don’t find that here. It’s just empty babbling: “Mao-bamey Care” “James Madison wouldn’t like that”. Un-friggin’-believable!

I notice an awful lot of finger pointing in these comments. That seems pretty bold for people who don’t even know each other. As a commandment keeper myself, I know that the 7th day is to be kept holy and how, but even among my sunday keeping friends, they shop, cause others to work and leave their homes on that day on a regular basis. I know nothing of Michele Bachmann, but she seems to need an actual definition of when Sabbath is and what the permitted activities are. There is no problem Scripturally with Congress working on sunday, it is a work day according to Scripture after all. The problem comes when our unfortunately elected leaders are working so tirelessly against the will of over 60% of the American people, to force us to swallow ‘medicine’ we don’t want to take. We have made it abundantly clear and those Communist dictators in office don’t care a whit about what we want. There is a line being drawn in the sand that we will not cross. They think they know best. Impeach them all! And keep the real Sabbath and all the other Commands of the Most High God YHWH is His Name.

You all miss the point: The way the Congress will pass this is ILLEGAL.
They will “deem” the Senate bill passed, even though it will NOT be held to a vote in the Senate. They will then “reconcile” the differences (the non abortion stuff in the Senate) and RE insert the pro abortion funding in the House bill, vote on it, then send it to the President.
Not only that, but ALL Budget bills (which Reconicilation takes place in) MUST originate in the House NOT the Senate, according to the Constitution.
What they are doing is illegal, unConstitutional, and these criminals need to be arrested for it.

But, all could be moot if the Pubs keep at it on voting process and the AG’s really do put this horror into legal lingo in court challenges. After all, much of this does seem to be un-Const. And as to Michelle, the Dems would love some pretty brainy babes to put forward their points but they are stuck with Nan and Rosa DeLauro! LOL She is correct about the Dec. 24 and now Sun. bill vote. Not as a Sabbath thing but a rejection of American heritage and sensibilities. Dems rarely look at the rel. or spiritual logic or consequences of their socialist pacifist legislation but some Americans still do. Perhaps that is why there will be such a blowback to their monstrosities such as Care, Cap and Tax, climate, amnesty, and the destruction of our national security in Nov. We shall see. After all, the bill could fail on Sun. and then we would have all of this play out through the summer!! Ah what a joy that would be!

According to “a fact-check by MSNBC” is actually correct, however, Bachmann’s comment stands correct. MSNBC is misleading the bigger picture. Sunday’s vote is also inclusive of alterations made in the house committee, which is trying to put abortion coverage in the overall bill. There is supposed to be 3 votes on Sunday, one of which is to push abortion coverage. A second is on the Senate bill alone. The third one is something completely different. However, she is wrong on one account. The Sabbath is not Sunday. Keeping Sunday holy or going to church on Sunday is one thing and that is a person’s personal choice, but for those who study the Bible, the Sabbath is only sundown on Friday to sundown on Saturday. Despite the long man-made tradition of calling Sunday the Sabbath, it is still wrong.

“Do not pollute the land where you are. Bloodshed pollutes the land, and atonement cannot be made for the land on which blood has been shed, except by the blood of the one who shed it.
Abortion is bloodshed. The land is already defiled, but this will make it worse. Doesn’t matter on which day of the week the vote takes place; what matters is if it passes or not. The U.S. Government should not codify abortion in any form, period.

iNKORREKT:
What does the military have to do with anything, other than being more clearly murderers than any abortion doctor?
And folks:
Fact check by MSNBC makes a hell of a lot more sense than one by FOX or one of those silly groups like Focus on the Family.

“We are going to have lot more fun after December 2010 than any human being should be allowed to have.
once again, remember, PRIDE COMES BEFORE FALL.”
That has to be the most unintentionally ironic statement I’ve seen posted here.

This has nothing to do with health care. This is all about getting the Democrats out of power so the Republicans can finish ruining our country and the rest of the world. Michele Bachmann repeats the talking points the GOP honchos tell her to say. She isn’t smart enough to come up with this on her own.
Her appearance on the Michael Savage show is officially jumping the shark. She has fallen into the abyss and there is no coming back for her now.
Bye bye Michele; we won’t miss you a bit.

Wow. I am so glad I moved out of Minnesota. Bachmann supporters are frighteningly ignorant.

Michelle Bachmann is the one voice of sanity from a state that thinks Jesse Ventura and Al Franken are legitimate political leaders.

magi Consider this – Substitute the word MURDER for Abortion and look at what you said:

Neither the House nor the Senate bill allows the use of federal money to pay for abortions(MURDERS). The Hyde Amendment has been in existence since @ 1976, shortly after the SC decided that a woman has the right to decide whether to (MURDER) have an abortion or not (Roe vs. Wade.) Also, the current bill has the approval of a council of Catholic nuns who had their legal advisers review the bill. The nuns have stated that the bill doesn’t allow government funds to be used for (MURDER) abortions. I wouldn’t expect that a group that values the sanctity of life would lie, but I would expect some politicians, pundits, and teevee news entertainers to lie for personal/political/economic gain because they do it all of the time.
Covering reproductive services, Tony, refers to the fact that some insurance companies can offer abortion (MURDER) services as part of a coverage package, but there will be a SEPARATE account set up into which a woman would pay a minimum of $1 per month (TO MURDER)for this coverage. This is different because the woman personally pays into the account, NOT the government, therefore no government funds would be used to pay for (MURDER)abortion. This is what you and Politifact are referring to. I hope this has been helpful. MMFA is a good site to get an understanding of what is in the bill in plain English
DULL MINDS CAN NOT COMPREHEND. EVEN IF MONEY IS KEPT IN A SEPARATE ACCOUNT, THE TRUSTEE IS FACILITATING AND ENABLING MURDER/ABORTION. I OBJECT TO MY TAX DOLLARS GOING TO AN INSURANCE COMPANY WHO IS WILLING TO ASSIST IN ANY WAY WITH ABORTION/MURDER.

Yesterday on FOX news they talked about how the IRS will be the collection agency for the Health Care System. I wonder what else we have no clue to, is in this bill? We also have not been told how much the increase will be to the IRS budget to do this….. I am sure the total will far exceed what Health Care costs now. Big Government is getting bigger everyone! And…. yes to all in these posts who understand that the true Sabbath has been from the beginning and most people today do not know that Sunday is pagan. Study your history and be informed. :-)

…traditionally, the Sabbath is Saturday, not Sunday :-)
The GOP, my party, has lost all of it’s credibility due to their collective voting record, a house cleaning is needed here. They had the House, Senate and Executive Branch for 6 yrs in the last decade, when they chose to go against the core belief of fiscal responsibility and push for Iraq and Medicare Part D, both to pander to voters…

the GOP needs surgery, to have it’s neo-con cancer, which is killing it, removed. Go TEA party – Pls help to suck these kooks out of the GOP I love, which is, afterall, the party of Lincoln and TR (That’s what put the “G” in GOP.)

I like Michele Bachmann but when are people like her going to learn that SATURDAY is the Sabbath! NOT Sunday! People who keep Sunday as their Sabbath are living a lie! Which is about 98% of all Christians who live this LIE! Dont live a lie! Spend time with your Savior on Saturday ( the true day of rest).
