Bachmann called the reform bill "dangerous" on Sunday

Updated: One of the first ads capitalizing on Sunday night’s vote on health care reform will run in Minnesota. Americans United for Change will be running ads in the Sixth Congressional District targeting Michele Bachmann this week. The New York Times’ Jeff Zeleny says that while Bachmann isn’t seen as particularly vulnerable, the commercial’s intent seems to be to provoke Bachmann into responding — thereby sending the ad viral.

Americans United for Change has been creating a series of ads in favor of health care reform, and this one dings the sophomore representative for not voting to give the rest of us insurance as good as her own government plan:

Finally, Congress passed the health reform bill to rein in the power of the big insurance companies and guarantee that all Minnesotans can get the same health insurance as members of Congress. But our Congresswoman Michele Bachmann voted against that? She may be an “important” politician in Washington, but when it comes to health insurance, if it’s good enough for her shouldn’t it be good enough for the rest of us?”

Bachmann will face off with either Tarryl Clark or Maureen Reed, who are seeking the Democratic nomination to run for the seat. Over the weekend, Bachmann was endorsed as the GOP’s official candidate in the 2010 race; she addressed the district’s GOP confab via video from Washington.

This bill is a travesty and a direct assault on the American people by the government, a “declaration of war” so to say.

It is further testimony as to the complete disregard and disrespect of the American people

What do you mean by “a declaration of war.” Whose quote is that? If it’s yours, what do you mean?

Maybe by “American People” he really means “Chamber of Commerce?”

Let’s see… helping people finally have access to affordable health care is interpreted as disregarding, disrespecting, and assaulting them. Are you actually capable of thinking for yourself, or do you just parrot Limbaugh’s and Fox News’ talking points?

No votes. Democrat Peterson- MN; Republican Kline-MN; Bachmann-MN.

No excuses to be against society in needs of basic HC.

Rick whats in the water you drink? HC for all is a travesty in your book? Perhaps you are reading from the wrong books. Palin, Bachmann, Limbagh? Get a life and hope your health remains good!

I’m less surprised that Michele voted no than that she actually showed up and voted at all. I’m sure she won’t make a habit of it. It would cut into her Fox News appearances and teabagger rallies.

Democrats destroyed the housing market, the banking industry, the auto industry, and now the medical industry. Way to go. Thaaaaa-aaanks!

You’ve got a typo there, Jimmy. You misspelled “Republicans”.

America is over 12 trillion in debt with 10s of trillions of unfunded liabilities. Don’t you idiots get it? You can’t afford this “healthcare” bill! You can’t afford anything.

Stop appealing to emotion and wake up to the reality – America, in these coming years, is going to face an economic meltdown. Your idiot leaders (Obama, Bush etc) have shafted the American people, promising them “free” goodies like government healthcare that are totally unsustainable.

Bachmann just wants to make sure that her constituents have the same health coverage as she and her husband provide the 40 employees at Bachmann & Associates Clinic: NONE.

@Rick, you wrote:

I have to assume you actually believe this statement, but I must ask, what is wrong with you? The American people elected a Democratic president, a Democratic Senate, and a Democratic House. Most of these candidates, including Obama, ran on a promise to reform healthcare, and they were elected overwhelmingly. Now they have taken a step to reform health care, as they promised.

To you, political leaders doing what they were elected to do shows “complete disregard and disrespect of the American people”. I have to ask again, what is wrong with you? I’m genuinely concerned.

Democrats were elected, but there job remains to represent the people that elected them. Once you get elected your not free to do as you please, it is it represent the people that elected you. Even if you say healthcare reform was wanted, it obviously was not wanted as outlined in this plan. The majority did not want this and were ignored. Let us go back and remember the definition of a Representative.

@OhioGay

Obama was elected to create jobs. Many more Americans see this legislative turd for what it is than favor it. Arrogant and ignorant democrites strike again.

Most of you lefties are freeloaders and thieves. Your attitude towards insurance companies and employers is no different than armed bank robbery.

“Finally, Congress passed the health reform bill to rein in the power of the big insurance companies and guarantee that all Minnesotans can get the same health insurance as members of Congress.”

Do people who support this awful bill actually believe everyone will now be getting the same healthcare as those in Congress?? How naive can one get?

Very impressive, Jimmy. Good luck with that attitude problem.

I have no idea why some conservatives push the false meme that progressives are “freeloaders and thieves” without documented information to back it up. Being poor doesn’t necessarily mean that a person doesn’t work. In fact, most poor people have jobs. Being poor doesn’t necessarily mean that a person votes for democratic candidates either. This meme is used as a wedge issue to supplant the fact that we are all citizens of the same country, and we rise or fall together, despite our differences. I am a progressive and a retired high school teacher of 33 years. I have never been unemployed, on welfare, homeless, stole anything, or been unable to manage my finances. Although I’ve been fortunate to be in this position, I refuse to close my eyes to the fact that there are millions of my fellow citizens who aren’t. I refuse to act as if they don’t exist, that this situation doesn’t exist, and I am more than willing to pay more in taxes to change the status quo. As a Christian, I always keep the following in the forefront of my mind:

Good News Bible–Today’s English Version–Proverbs 14:31

If you oppress poor people, you insult the God who made them; but kindness shown to the poor is an act of worship.
