Health care reform bill passes, Minnesota delegation splits vote

Updated: At 10:45 p.m. Eastern time Sunday, the U. S. House of Representatives voted 219 to 212 to pass a historic bill reforming health care in America. Thirty-four Democrats joined Republicans in opposing the bill.
Two votes remain Sunday evening: One on a reconciliation bill that modifies the Senate bill, and another on a GOP proposal to alter the reconciliation bill.
While official vote tallies aren’t yet in, Minnesota’s delegates indicated their votes in advance of the vote: Democratic Reps. Keith Ellison, Betty McCollum, James Oberstar and Tim Walz voted in favor, while Republican Reps. Michele Bachmann, John Kline and Erik Paulsen were joined by Democrat Collin Peterson in voting against. Having passed both houses of Congress, the bill now goes to President Obama.
Update: The final vote tally shows all state Democrats voting in favor of the bill, except for Rep. Collin Peterson, who joined all state Republicans in opposing health care reform.
Oberstar was undecided on his vote until recent days, but on Saturday he indicated he’d be supporting the reforms. In an interview with The UpTake, he explained his decision:

No votes. Democrat Peterson- MN; Republican Kline-MN; Bachmann-MN.
No excuses to be against society in needs of basic HC.

Dems were elected to create jobs, but they insist rather to shackle the insurance company, a sick person’s last and only friend.

Insurance companies are no one’s friend, least of all a sick person’s.

Peterson, Paulson, Kline, Bachman all hall of shame candidates. 39 million+ Americans should be thankful for Oberstar’s courage, Ellison’s common sense, Walsh’s integrity, and McCollum’s consistent support.

You people do not know what you are talking about! Did you read the Bill or at least some of it?! If you did, then I really don’t think that you would have the same comments you do now. I commend the reps that voted no and am disgusted with the ones who voted yes. Obviously, they didn’t read it either! This bill will do more harm than good. It states so in the many clauses within this bill. This bill is no “friend” to the American People and it will also have us paying for illegals and their families health care and in no way shape or form will this bill help us! Since it seems as if you all have no clue regarding the bill’s contents, here is a brief overview of what you’re supporting:

I will be supporting any candidate who voted no and help and support anyone who runs against those who voted yes. Let’s get all of them who voted yes out of office. This was not the popular vote of the people. It is an outrage as our representatives are not voting the will of the people!
They do not derserve to be in office.

This is another one of those posters who confuses his or her interests with those who could afford to pay somebody to post crap like this.

For everyone who is upset over the republican candidates voting no, I would like to see your comments in 2 years. This just made our more of a joke that the majority of people didn’t want this, but it passed anyway. You know why? Because of the millions of illegal immigrants in this country that will now get healthcare. Way to be informed liberals, you should get out of this country instead of wrecking it.

You say insurance is no sick person’s friend, but the bill that was just passed say “you MUST purchase health insurance” Do you really think the prices will go down? Who do you think will pay for the “rebates for those who can not afford it? If you are on welfare you already have government insurance and hospitals have to eat the cost of treating most people who show up in the ER so who did this benefit? Hospitals, Insurance Companies, and the Government. Since benefits do not start until 2014 and we have to start paying this year, I guess the Government just robbed for us to pay the bills to China.

I do not understand the negativity torwards this health care reform. How can we call ourselves caring americans if we let our friends or neighbors die because a health insuance company drops someone who has been paying their premiums for a long time, to just get robbed of their hard earned money and left for dead! I beleive that some where in a very important american document it says”promote for the common welfare” so eveyone has a chance to be taken care of!!
