Bachmann’s ‘Evita moment’

As Tea Partiers rallied outside the the Capitol Sunday, lawmakers took turns addressing the protesters from the balcony between votes. The New Republic’s Michelle Cottle recalls a scene on the balcony of the House when “Tea Party prom queen” Michele Bachmann had her “Evita moment.”
But it wasn’t until a couple of the old guys goaded Tea Party prom queen Michele Bachmann onto the balcony that the fun really got started. After only a second or two of faux resistance, Bachmann sidled up to the edge, clasped her hands together and shook them above each shoulder like some kind of pink-clad prize fighter. The crowd below went hog wild, and more than one member made a snorting reference to Bachman’s “Evita” moment. Soon, other Republicans began sliding out to stand beside her and bask in the reflected love.

Yes, Thank you Michele for jumping in front of every camera at every opportunity, helping to ensure a democtatic majority for the next 20 years. We are SO grateful for your continued, never ending quest to be in front of the media. Your endless parade of conspiracy theories are the salvation of ‘real’ America.

Michelle Bachmann, Sarah Palin, Glen Beck, etc are dangerous people who cloak their fascist tendencies behind flaux populism. Their vision appeals to the worst in human nature and runs counter to what American ideals stand for. Progressives need to take a harder line against them and begin to directly and aggressively challenge them on their crazy paranoid anti-American rhetoric before another one of those nuts flies a plane into a building or leads to some other act of violence. These people may make for great jokes on the Daily Show but the underlining thought underneath the message is nothing short of scary!
