Bachmann touts veterans’ benefits, but misses vets’ vote
Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at 1:08 pm
“We must support the men and women who protect our nation,” writes Rep. Michele Bachmann on her campaign site. “That means giving them the tools and equipment they need, as well as the benefits and moral support they have earned. I support tax benefits to help ease the financial burdens our citizen-warriors and their families face and updated, improved GI Bill education benefits.” Yet when the Veterans’ Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment Act of 2010 came up for a vote last night, Bachmann was the only Minnesota representative who wasn’t present to vote.
The goal’s aim is to increase “the rates of compensation for veterans with service-connected disabilities and the rates of dependency and indemnity compensation for the survivors of certain disabled veterans, and for other purposes.”
The bill was passed with 407 yes votes and 22 representatives — including Bachmann — not voting. The Minnesota Independent has left a message with Bachmann’s House office; we’ll update here should her representatives respond.
As we’ve reported, Bachmann leads Minnesota’s U.S. House delegation with the most missed floor votes — many, it would appear, due to her ambitious media schedule — and she’s missed around four times more votes than her colleagues Reps. Keith Ellison and Erik Paulsen on the House Financial Services Commmittee.

She apparently doesn’t care about the homeless and starving American either. In the 2010 cycle she took $4,000 in PAC money from the big three credit bureaus. Yet she sits on the Financial Services Committee where the legislation is stalled. Hummm . . . Qud pro qoo perhaps?
In survey after survey, including a recent MSNBC survey, more than 90 percent of Americans say that workplace discrimination based upon someone’s personal credit report is wrong and should be illegal. Yet Congress is being bribed by corporate campaign contributors and strong armed by lobbyists to kill the legislation that would make the practice illegal. That is NOT “democracy by the people and for the people.” How can Congress be allowed to thwart the overwhelming will of the people?
Most Americans don’t even know HR3149: The Equal Employment for All Act even exists. What’s more, they don’t know about the corruption and backroom deal making taking place to keep the legislation stalled in the House of Representatives Financial Services Committee.

The woman is nuts. It really is the only explanation. Even ego doesn’t explain how you would miss an important vote and then run around telling everybody how you’re helping them – when you don’t even have the time to show up and vote. It’s beyond hypocrisy.

407 yes votes and she is criticized for not voting? This is a joke, right?

Word and deed don’t match. That’s all we need to know about Ms. Bachmann.

“When there is a bill that lands on my desk as president, you the public will have five days to look online to find out what is in it before I sign so that you know what your government is doing.” – Barack Obama

Just because someone doesn’t LOOK at the bills posted online doesn’t mean they aren’t there. Just because a politician says he/she was “cut out” of negotiations doesn’t mean they weren’t in the committee meetings. It just means the gullible do not take the TIME to review the CSPAN videos. After waging a major disinformation campaign on HCR, Senator Grassley now has a statement on his web site taking credit for writing a part of the new law. If he wasn’t allowed to contribute to the new law, then how is he able to tout the part of the bill that he actually wrote? Some people will believe anything without checking it. As for Rep. Bachmann, she misses important votes because attending different events and appearing on Fuchs Noose is more important. Watch someone’s actions to determine whether something is as important to them as they say it is. Andrews nailed it.

Obama said five days. He is a liar.
Did Bachmann explicitly promise to vote for the vet bill? That exact bill?

I really like Michele Bachmann. She intelligent, quick and knows her facts and always answers without hemming and hawing like so many Democratic women do. But although they already had 407 votes against 22, and her vote wasn’t really crucial, she should have been there to vote. I’m surprised to hear she’s missed that many votes. Although I’m a Fox News fan, I’d like to see Sean or Greta ask her why she’s missed so many votes. I’m sure they would if it was a Democrat.

PG13, I was responding to Andrew who said “Word and deed don’t match.” Ragging on Bachmann and letting Obama slide on his outright lie is hypocrisy. Don’t you agree?
As for 20-20, pretty sure the reps know when a bill will pass unanimously. I’d like to know why she missed the vote too, but as detailed above there were 22 non votes, about evenly split D versus R.
It’s a bit hard to take Bachmann’s critics seriously when they nitpick over trivial matters such as this.

As a veteran, I say Bachmann is a lying asshole who uses the military for her own purposes, like Timmy Paw stealing money from Support the Troops licensing monies. Keep supporting these idiots, “Jimmy”. It’s worked wonderfully for pussies like you, hasn’t it?

@TBag: Take a deep breath; wouldn’t want you to pop a blood vessel. And not just because I’m paying for your healthcare. I appreciate your service to our nation; if you suffer PTSS you should seek out professional help. Perhaps therapy and/or medication would reduce your suffering.
I’ve read the posting policies for this site, and it says the following, among other things:
◦Keep discussions respectful: Different viewpoints and opinions are welcome; personal attacks and obscenity are not. See http://minnesotaindependent.com/policies
While I find your colorful language very amusing, apparently it is against policy and you risk having your post deleted.

Mrs Bachmann should pursue her media career full time, and leave national legislating to people who are better informed and actually willing to show up, do the work. My preference is for Tarryl Clark, a hard-working, sane, responsible candidate for Representative from the Minnesota 6th District.
Imagine if the Mn 6th had someone who showed up to work for them, rather than attending “tea parties” sponsored by John Birch Society type extremists

I’m a veteran, and I support Michele Bachmann completely as do most veterans. If only veterans were allowed to vote the democrats would never win another election and we all know it.
