Clark fundraises over Bachmann’s latest ‘Anti-American’ comments
Thursday, March 25, 2010 at 3:21 pm
At an anti-abortion event on Wednesday night, Rep. Michele Bachmann reiterated a statement that she’d herself repudiated in the past: That President Obama is anti-American. “I said I had very serious concerns that Barack Obama had anti-American views,” she said according to Politico. “And now I look like Nostradamus.”
Bachmann made similar comments on Chris Matthews’ Hardball in October 2008, but quickly distanced herself from her own statement.
“I did not say that Barack Obama was anti-American, nor do I believe Barack Obama is anti-American. He loves his country, just as everyone in this room does,” she told the Rotary Club in St. Cloud at the time. “Nor did I call for an investigation of members of Congress for their pro-American or anti-American views. That is not what I said.”
“This is a gross distortion of what I said,” she told the St. Cloud Times editorial board. “That is not what I believe and that isn’t what I said and that isn’t what I stand for.”
“My parents taught me when I was little, if you make a mistake, own up to it,” she said. “I wish I had not used that phrase. …I do not question his patriotism, what I do question are his ideas.”
But Bachmann brought that phrase back at the Susan B. Anthony List event on Wednesday evening, where she shared the stage with Gov. Tim Pawlenty.
Her 2008 comments generated hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations to her opponent, El Tinklenberg. And Tinklenberg is hoping Bachmann latest comments will do the same for Tarryl Clark, a Democrat running for the DFL endorsement to take on Bachmann.
He sent out this fundraising pitch on Thursday afternoon:
I just received a call from my friend Tarryl Clark – the candidate who is going to beat Congresswoman Michele Bachmann in 2010 – with some disturbing news.
We all remember Michele Bachmann’s comments in 2008, when she said she was “very concerned” that President Obama “may have anti-American views” and called for an investigation into Members of Congress to find out whether they are “pro-America or anti-America.”
Well, speaking at a closed-press event last night, Michele Bachmann said, “I said I had very serious concerns that Barack Obama had anti-American views. And now I look like Nostradamus.”
HELP ME HELP TARRYL CLARK DEFEAT MICHELE BACHMANN TODAY
We need to put an end to this kind of fear-mongering from Michele Bachmann and her right-wing allies, which we’re already seeing incite hatred and violence across the country in recent days.
In 2008, you rallied to my side and flooded our campaign with the resources necessary to take Bachmann on. Today, I need you to do the same for Tarryl Clark so that she can beat Michele Bachmann and send a message that Minnesota’s 6th District is tired of her rhetoric and ready for real leadership in Congress.
DONATE TODAY AND LET’S RETIRE MICHELE BACHMANN
Thanks for everything you do.

Um Shelly,
Barack Obama was elected President. Since more Americans voted for him than for John McCain, that means that more Americans agree with his views. That means HIS views are American views. Since you don’t agree with him, you are the one with anti-American views. Now why didn’t you predict that?

Actually He got 69,456,897 votes out of a population of approximately 303,824,640. That’s about 23%. And there’s no chance he would win the election if held today, based on his dramatic fall in the polls.
But American values are defined by our history more than the evolving standard of today’s mostly government educated population. Based on the Constitution, Declaration of Independence, laws, and supporting documents the greatest American value is probably Liberty. Do you agree?
Obama has done his best to hide his value of Liberty. Like all leftists all he knows is force. Force is not compatible with Liberty.

Well Jimmy boy- if all the people living within the borders of these United States could vote- then your numbers would make sense. Since children, non-citizens, aliens, people who no longer have the right to vote and just a bunch of people who don’t bother to vote are included in the population number- that is a skewed percentage. If they can’t vote- they can’t be counted as voters. If they didn’t vote, they can’t be counted as voters. What counts is the actual turnout and the actual number of votes and of those, Barack Hussein Obama gained a very clear majority in the election for President of the United States.
At this time, the poll numbers for the president would indeed keep him in office. There is absolutely no one on the right that would be able to take it from him at this time. I don’t think it will happen in 2012 either. You totally have it wrong.
And your comments about force? That is from left field because this President is not the one who believes in force. And if you don’t understand the presidents believe in liberty, you haven’t been paying attention.

I will be making a contribution to Bachmann’s opponent and to as many Democrats as I can. I will also be registering people to vote and help people get to the polls in November. I hope Minnesota does the right thing and gets Bachmann out of there.

John said more Americans agree with Obama therefore He defines what is American. I’ve proven his logic is flawed.
Obama’s healthcare destruction plan forces people and businesses to buy health insurance. Note the word FORCE. And even despite unanimous polling showing far more Americans disapprove of the plan than approve.
He is a bully.
I made a contribution to Bachmann last week after reading comments here. I’ll be personally compaigning against McGollum.

Yes, she looks like Nostradamus, a crazy long dead guy that spoke in riddles that can be interpreted in any number of ways. Not likely she meant it that way, I guess.
But still, it would explain a lot. Sounds like a good campaign slogan, too.
Vote Bachmann, Undead, Confused and Proud of It!
Seriously, though the way she waffles on this is typical of your garden variety lower tier professional politician. She doesn’t have a clue what she thinks, and she can’t plan her talking points for cohesiveness over the long term. Her handlers tell her what to say, she parrots it back, and it has worked so far. Eventually even your constituents catch on, and it may be about time for the good people of her home district to send her on to a more lucrative position on “K” Street, lobbying for the big business interests she holds sovereign now.

Michelle Bachmann is a very confused lady, to put it more mildly! Her interview with chris wallace just proved it. She does not take what she hears and tell it like it is. She speaks without thinking. Obama has not passed a national tax. There is no death panels in the healthcare bill. I think it is time to replace her with someone who has some knowledge of whats actually happening. And someone who actually cares about the people instead of their own political agendas.

Michele Bachmann is a religious fanatic that should be accorded the respect due all religious fanatics.
It is also appropriate that those of us who do not share her extreme ideology band together to oppose her desire to turn this country into a theocracy.

The GOP decimates people’s retirement, and then Bachmann wants to “wean people off social security.” Meanwhile, Bachmann sucks up taxpayer dollars ($14K for tea party), spends like the RNC on mailers,($32K), enjoys farm subsidies($250K)-I say we do not need Bachmann, when she talks “belt tightening” on her site, she means for taxpayers”, not her.

Michele Bachmann is a jackass who does not belong in Congress. She is good only for comic relief. There are not two sides to this issue. Why the people of Minnesota allow this ignoramus to speak for them us beyond me.

Jimmy, noting what percent of the total population Obama received as votes is meaningless to your point.
I think Obama says and represents the very best of American values. I think he speaks for more Americans on the really important stuff than any other political leader in the US.
We’ll see if Americans return him to office, or turn in another direction, come 2012.
