Bachmann/Palin rally heavy on God, terrorism
Thursday, April 08, 2010 at 11:33 am

Thousands of people streamed into the Minneapolis Convention Center to hear Sarah Palin, Rep. Michele Bachmann and a bevy of high-profile Republicans speak on Wednesday. Many who took the podium claimed Jesus as their own — even mocking Democrats as godless — before Bachmann chastised President Barack Obama for taking away the nuclear option in response to cyber-terrorism.
Waiting for the event to begin, the crowd was treated to Go Fish, a children’s musical act that told the audience, “We use our music to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ.” The group says it targets children because that’s when people are most likely to convert to Christianity.
Opening the rally was Chris Baker, a controversial Minnesota talk radio host, who pointed to the crowd and said, “This is what the waiting room at the ‘Obamacare’ clinic is going to look like in 2014.”
“The congresswoman runs from no one,” he said, praising Bachmann. “The congresswoman tells the truth, and the amazing thing about it is to see the feminist movement pick on a girl.”
Moments later, Mark Johnson, pastor of the Jubilee Worship Center in St. Cloud, led the audience in prayer. “Some would say America is no longer a Christian nation, but I pray in the name of Jesus that there would be another awakening in this nation that America would be a Christian nation and that all would acknowledge it as such.”
He continued, “We lift up today Congresswoman Michele Bachmann and her family. God, we ask you will empower her for this great event today… and God may you continue to grant her favor and strength throughout her campaign.”
Following the prayer, Baker again took the mic to quip, “A quick announcement here: Since he is saying God and Jesus, all Democrats’ therapy will start at 5:30, okay?”
In his brief address, Rep. John Kline said that Democrats “are taking away our freedoms. Our liberties given to us by our creator are being snatched away at a terrifying pace.”
Next up: Gov. Tim Pawlenty.
“We now live in a country where Wall Street gets a bailout, the poor get a handout and the rest of us get our wallet out,” he said. “Our constitutional rights and freedoms are under assault. American common sense is under assault.”
Bachmann, in a floral skirt and yellow jacket, took to the stage amid cheers, and quickly addressed the topics of national security and fighting terrorism.
“When it comes to the war on terror, I think none of us could have imaged we would see domestic attacks on U.S. soil… and now we’re not supposed to use the word ‘terrorist’ anymore?” she said, blaming Attorney General Eric Holder for what she characterized as Islamic terrorist attacks at Fort Hood and for the “underwear bomber.” “We’re not supposed to use the word ‘Islamic terrorist’ anymore. You might change the terminology but you can’t change reality.”
She also took issue with President Obama’s new efforts at curbing nuclear weapons proliferation.
“So if in fact there is a nation who is compliant with all the rules ahead of time… if they fire against the United States, a biological weapon, a chemical weapon, or maybe a cyber-attack, then we aren’t going to be firing back with nuclear weapons,” she said. “Doesn’t that make us all feel safe?”
She ended with, “God gave us our rights! We don’t trade in inalienable rights.”
Palin’s speech included familiar rhetoric.
“Republicans have been getting criticized lately with this, this mistaken concept, I guess, sort of surrounding Republicans right now that they’re the ‘Party of No,’” she said. “And we’re saying, ‘What’s wrong with being the ‘Party of No’ when you consider what it is that Obama, Pelosi and Reid are trying to do to our country. So be it!”

Palin is electric; crowds are struck with her charisma; it shines though and dominates every event. And because of outrageous attacks she is inoculated from ad homenem sick comments from those who fear her.
Though the left wing hates it, most Americans believe in the rule of law and limited government the Constitution requires. Anyone who reads her book witnesses Palin’s articulate presentation of conservative ideology that honors the Supreme Law that preserves freedom.
But most Americans are busy watching a game and then a movie; and proceed to get their news from John Stewart comedy show and SNL. Smears die hard with school yard adolescent mocking. It is a pity people want to look away as our freedom goes down the Marxist tube. To quote Mr. Stewart “It ain’t fu*#in’ funny man.”

The truth is that Palin and Bachman would like to see a Taliban style Religious Government in the US. What they call freedom is forcing you to live as they choose.
PS – Plus they are two of the dumbest politicians ever.

And not one, single idea for how to help the country deal with the present or the future. Not one.
People need to take a good, hard look at the meanings of the labels “conservative,” “liberal” and “progressive.” Tea Partiers in particular, including Palin and Bachmann, need to think–really THINK–about China and India and the EU and all those NEW entities, from transglobal companies to regional unions to growing economic superpowers. Is the way to deal with US competition on the world scene a “conservative” way? Can individual states and locales compete against CHINA??? How many telephone operators in Timbuktu have lost their jobs to INDIA??? And what about how far ahead the EU is in science and math? Take a close look at German–yes, GERMAN–economics.
Conservatives better get off their “we’re exceptional” arses and look around. “Liberals” take care of people, not profits, first. Why? Because profit is made by people, and if you limit the people pool, you therefore limit profits–both literally and figuratively. (That’s probably too deep for most “conservatives” to understand, however.)Meanwhile, “progressives” are devoted to progress–not past glories, but future ones.
What is most important to “conservatives”? CONSERVING (what they have). Not building the future, maintaining THE PAST. It is just undeniable. And for that, and its ramifications, I hope all but the innocent and unwillingly ignorant are DAMNED because the way they are dragging their feet into the future is causing millions of people to suffer and even die.
Luckily, for the most part, in twenty or thirty years, THEY will all be dead. If we can survive that long, we’ll finally be able to make the kind of lasting, secure progress this country desparately needs to survive in the new, global socioeconomic order.

Palin and Bachmann are hatemongers. Period. God help us all if a majority were to agree with the horrific lies they tell and proposals they espouse.

So this beauty queen retard (the acceptable Limbaugh-definition, not the mean-spirited Emanuel definition) and her mindless cronies imply that Democrats are godless.
Let me tell you something you ignorant hate machine; I fought for this country, a man who quickly became my best friend died for it at the hands of a religous nut, and I witnessed it first hand. I pray every night for his soul and his families. I am a Democrat. I am a veteran. and I am a Christian. and MY Savior, who healed the sick and fed the poor without hesitation, would have little use for you and your hate-filled impotent crowd.
And for the fools who will attack me, let me tell you something- I voted for McCain, after voting for Bush in 2000. I don’t have much use for Obama, but I pray for him each night too.
Theres nothing wrong with protesting government spending, but where in hell were you the previous 8 years when GWB was shreadin the constitution and spending Clinton’s surplus like it was his job.
I have no use for your hate, your intolerance, and your stupidity. May God have mercy on you.

Ummmmm……cornelius…..most Americans see the hypocrisy of Palin and don’t have your nor Palin’s values.
The supreme law that preserves freedom? Care to elaborate on that? She wants to force her false christian values down people’s throats and call anyone who opposes her un-American.
Wow she is the bees knees isn’t she? ;-)

Michele Bachmann wasn’t wearing a cross?? Is she too embarrassed to proclaim her faith???
The “liberal” media screamed and yelled when they found a photo of Obama without a flag pin. I’m confused??

HAHAHHAAHHAHHAH @ Palin. I hope she runs for President, Dems are guaranteed a victory.
A governor who quits her job as Governor should not be introduced on stage as Governor of Alaska. Sorry but they are by far the dumbest politicians this country has ever seen. And her voice is enough to kill a cat.

I am a Christian. I am also a Democrat. My husband is a third generation minister. I just returned from Haiti where myself and other church members handed out food and clothes, and comforted people who had lost their loved ones.
In my mind, the way that Palin and Bachmann preach hate, violence and spread misinformation or lies for their own personal gain is arguably the least Christian behavior that I’ve ever witnessed.
They’re hypocrites, and dangerous ones at that.

By the way, I’m beyond offended that they assume that any one who is not a Republican is not a Christian.
They may want to revisit that portion of the Consitution that assures individuals of freedom of religion and the separation of church and state.

Bachmann: “So if in fact there is a nation who is compliant with all the rules ahead of time… if they fire against the United States, [...] a cyber-attack, then we aren’t going to be firing back with nuclear weapons,” she said. “Doesn’t that make us all feel safe?”
So, why is the religious right defending and supporting someone who would use nuclear weapons against another who would perform a cyber attack? Either she (and her supporters) is too dumb to know what a cyber attack is, or so immoral that she (they) thinks bringing down a computer network warrants murdering hundreds of thousands who had nothing to do with it, when murdering even the person responsible would be reprehensible. It is becoming unfortunately clear that the world’s next fascist movement will come from the religious right right here in America.
I wonder what fox news would have to say about her comments.
So, someone from the religious right, please tell me, what would you say if Russia said they would launch a biological attack on the US if we broke into their computer systems again (as we have in the past)?
And you support these people? Not sure who is more immoral their supporters or themselves…
You deserve the lack of respect those on the left give you.

True Christians, I appreciate you saying something about what is being promoted by Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachmann. I don’t know what kind of church Michelle attends but she seems to share Palin’s extreme religious beliefs.
I don’t know much about Michelle, I admire the fact she and her husband care about foster children. I wonder if she knows Alaska has a VERY poor rating for taking care of homeless children, I believe (I’m not totally sure)it may be the worst rated in the United States.
Alaska has a lot of work to do on social issues, high rape and assault numbers, high suicide, high drop out rate, high teen pregnancy, lack of senior care…..I think Sarah had her chance to make positive change, but didn’t.
So I don’t appreciate her “acting” like an expert at change. I don’t think she walks her talk.

I feel it unfortunate that so much emphasis is put on religion by one party and used as a diversion by another party. Wouldn’t it be great if we could stay on track. Let’s just talk about it openly…..instead of calling names and implying you or I am a better faith-based individual than the other, can we just get to the heart of the matter. It appears one side prefers a progressive, gov’t dominated, wealth redistribution approach. That’s fine….let’s talk about it. The other sde wants limited government, less taxes, just about less of everything. Let’s talk about that. Can we please stop trying to be “holier than thou?”
Comment posted April 8, 2010 @ 2:12 pm
I’m not really sure- if Christians are stupid and insignificant, what difference it makes whether or not the people who gathered together spoke about Jesus and God and expressed their faith.
That is their right- and for any “christians” who attack them for it, whether you provide abortion services in Cambodia, or hand out blankets in Haiti in the name of God- believe me there’s plenty of criticism that can be thrown your way.
It is amazing how the religious christian politics of the radical left can’t be criticized, but when the christian faith of the majority is expressed in a public venue that liberals did not have to attend if they don’t want to- it’s open season.
I think you all are just mad because Bachmann and Palin gathered a crowd of 11,000 or so- and the DFL- Clark, Ellison, McCullom, etc… were lucky to gather 300 all across the cities. There were people counting heads, and the press is being generous when they refer to “several hundred”- you should thank them for trying to shield you from such utter embarrassment and the reality of your irrelevance to the average folk.

Philip Avon St. Cyr:
Are you as clueless about economics as your post indicates?
You said:
“Is the way to deal with US competition on the world scene a ‘conservative’ way? Can individual states and locales compete against CHINA??? How many telephone operators in Timbuktu have lost their jobs to INDIA???”
Um, if you knew anything about economics, you would realize your “transglobal companies” are in business to make money – profits. And to maximize profits, dear naive one, you minimize costs. And since payroll is the largest component of costs for most companies, minimizing costs means minimizing payrolls.
So when liberal tax & spend morons like Obama, Pelosi, and Reid raise the costs of hiring employees in the U.S. by raising the minimum hourly wage of U.S. workers to more than the minimum DAILY wage of workers in China, where do you think these transglobal companies will go to reduce labor costs?
And when labor unions – backed by progressive democrats like Obama and his thugs – force companies to pay union wages in excess of 15% over non-union wages, is it any wonder GM and Chrysler (and any other U.S. unionized business) cannot compete on a global scale?
You say profit is made by people? No, productive labor is done by people – it is the cost of that labor that determines a company’s profit. And as long as unions and liberals/progressives continue to drive up the cost of labor in this country with high taxes, exorbitant costs of regulation, and skyrocketing union pay premiums, China will eat our lunch.
But you just go right ahead and argue for pricing ourselves out of the global labor market. When Obama and the unions eventually chase every job overseas, perhaps you’ll be able to convince the Chinese to redistribute some of their wealth to fund all of our unemployment!
lol

Remember; Obama was took over from Dubya a country he ran into the ground for 8 years. He was handed the responsibility for 2 wars neither funded responsibly; the assumption being that our children and their children would pay for it. Obama won because a MAJORITY of Americans wanted him as president because he campaigned on promises of change which he is delivering; it is called Democracy! Get a clue; when you fail, we come in and clean up your mess. It is high time the Republic Party realize this and start cooperating, or, like what they used to do before the likes of Palin, Bachmann and the loudmouth rightie Chris Baker gained influence over them; working with Democrats; to fix all the things the Republic Party screwed up over the past eight years and reverse all the de-regulation they did since and because of another dimwit puppet president of theirs Ronald Reagan. The Repulic Party doesn’t work any more, they have to stay out of power for like – ever if conditions for the vast majority of people in this country are to improve. Palin, Bachmann and Baker need to shut up and let the process work.
