Ahead of Minnesota visit, Huckabee says being gay is like drug abuse, incest, polygamy

Days before Mike Huckabee headlines a fundraiser for the Minnesota Family Council, his statements to a college newspaper are raising eyebrows. The former Arkansas governor’s remarks to the College of New Jersey publication, The Perspective, were so widely criticized that he has accused the publication of distorting his words (The Perspective subsequently provided an audio file of the interview).

Huckabee, who speaks at an April 26 MFC function, said that gay and lesbian relationships are similar to drug abuse, incest and polygamy, and accused same-sex couples of treating children like pets.

From the article:

“You don’t go ahead and accommodate every behavioral pattern that is against the ideal,” he said of same-sex marriage. “That would be like saying, well, there are a lot of people who like to use drugs, so let’s go ahead and accommodate those who want to use drugs. There are some people who believe in incest, so we should accommodate them. There are people who believe in polygamy, so we should accommodate them.”

He also affirmed support for a law in Arkansas that prohibits same-sex couples from becoming adoptive or foster parents. “I think this is not about trying to create statements for people who want to change the basic fundamental definitions of family,” Huckabee said. “And always we should act in the best interest of the children, not in the seeming interest of the adults.”

“Children are not puppies,” he continued. “This is not a time to see if we can experiment and find out, how does this work?”

Reading this drivel does one thing: affirms politics are all smoke and mirrors and about being as divisive as possible to steer voting. Based on the non-representative government we have witnessed with the “health care reform,” it is very clear that special interests are in charge. They take turns as dems and pubs, but ultimately, no matter how divisive and polarizing they appear, they take turns. 8 years of the pubs and their special interests, now 4 or 8 years for the dems. No one would vote for the Dems again- unless there is enough ridiculous crap being spouted by the right to DRIVE people to vote in such a manner. Huckabee isn’t an idiot. He knows damn well what he is doing. Being a good servant of the “two party” system. Wag the dog is all it is.

Huckabee has made his own bed of irrelevancy, now he must lay in it. He will never hold office again, and if he does it will be only because of spiteful, hateful voters.

Clacks, if you like what Huckabee said then you’re already too far gone. Say goodbye to reason, rationality, and common sense…not to mention science.

The MN Family Council is just a vehicle to provide an ongoing meal ticket (at the expense of gays) to Tom Prichard, who runs it. It continually stirs up hatred toward GLBT people to scare the sheeple into sending money, which only ensures that Tom Prichard never has to get honest work and that the cycle of hatred continues. This time they’ll skim a little off the top to pay Huckabee. There’s nothing more reliable than stirring up hatred to keep the coffers full. Despicable and despicable people. Sad that the MN Family Council can’t be bothered with ever doing anything positive for families.

Some people believe the Bible is the word of God. We should not accommodate them.

Some people believe the Koran is sacred. We should not accommodate them either.

Is this how they exercise their religion – by persecuting others. This is nothing but primal prejudice wrapped in scripture.

Christian extremists, like Islamic extremists, have been seduced by their pride.
