Bob Anderson will be the Independence Party–endorsed candidate to take on Rep. Michele Bachmann in November. Anderson won the endorsement over St. John’s University professor Aubrey Immelman, who withdrew his nomination at the endorsing convention on Saturday.
“I managed to reach about 20 of the approximately 30 delegates and alternates on the phone Thursday and Friday night ahead of Saturday’s Independence Party nominating convention, but it was clear that most of those planning to attend already had their minds made up,” Immelman said in a comment at the Minnesota Independent. “Not one of the individuals on the delegate list offered me a pledge of support.”
Anderson won 10 percent of the vote in the 2008 election as an unendorsed independent.
“I will represent my constituents free from the partisan politics of the Democratic and Republican Parties,” Anderson posted on his website following the endorsement. “I ask if you truly want change, try something different. You have the control. This is a two year position, if you are not satisfied with my job performance you can vote me out!”

Mr. Anderson’s 2008 campaign showed that his Scandinavian-friendly name is requirement enough to peel away sufficient number of uneducated voters to ensure Bachmann’s reelection. In 2010 Mr. Anderson returns to showcase how his general competence, though alleged to include the arts of prosthetic dentistry, does not extend to debating, public policy or even a basic ability to articulate a sound viewpoint. But who needs that when you are running in Minnesota and your last name ends with a “-son”? I fear Mr. Anderson’s name will yet again seduce away a sufficient number of fellow political illiterates to ensure a third term for the national embarrassment that is Ms. Bachmann.
