A coalition of groups has announced plans to protest an appearance by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee at a fundraiser for the Minnesota Family Council Monday evening. The groups say the protest was sparked by the signing into law of an anti-immigration bill in Arizona; Huckabee, who stirred controversy recently when he compared same-sex marriage to drug abuse, polygamy and incest, is targeted because he has “a long track record of anti immigrant sentiment,” according to a statement about the protest.
The protest on Monday will occur outside the Minneapolis Hilton. Groups listed as supporting the protest are Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action Coalition, SEIU, La Asamblea, Workers Interfaith Network, and FMLN-MN
Here’s the press statement on the protest:
A coalition of community organizations is holding an emergency vigil and protest after Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed into law the most extreme anti-immigrant legislation in the country (SB-1070) on Friday. This disgusting bill legalizes racial profiling, and mandates local law enforcement to check proof of citizenship of anyone they encounter.
10 other states are currently considering similar legislation
We will gather to protest a fundraising event for local religious right outfit the Minnesota Family Council attended by national level republican politicians Mike Huckabee and Governor Tim Pawlenty, who have a long track record of anti immigrant sentiment, to send a strong message to the politicians of Minnesota, and the United States.

Since he is a politician and he he having a fundraiser being held by the family council I feel the idea of seperation of church and state is a must here!
People get out and protest! There are many layers to why this is wrong.
People like those at the MFC yell scream and cry about not having state and federal money go into anything their religious beliefs are against. But they are solely taxed exempted with my tax dollars! Its against all my beliefs but that doesn’t change anything there now does it?
Not to mention that this is an extreme special interest group!
Morally, his anti immigrant sentiment, his ignorant take on same sex couples, and disregard to human life on an equal standard is enough for even the extremist groups to yell up in arms about!

Jill,
First, he’s not a politician; he’s currently a TV host.
Second, he’s AGAINST the Arizona immigration bill.
Third, I don’t know where you get “disregard for human life” from, but Mike Huckabee has done more for the cause of life than most people ever will. I learned this personally when he took charge of helping refugees from hurricane Katrina while the governors of the effected states were wringing their hands. And it’s “separation,” not “seperation.”

Ben,
Jill never said MH supported the recent AZ law. I think it is well established from his recent participation in politics, as a governor and presidential candidate (or politician), that he has “a long track record of anti immigrant sentiment,”.
For your third point, you’ve taken a part of Jill’s statement out of context. She didn’t say that MH had a “disregard for human life.” Her statement refers to equality.
And it’s “affected”, not “effected” (in this case.)

There is no place in secular government for the bigotry of religious zealots.

Ben,
he is indeed a politician. He has run for office, he has held office, he will be running for office again.
As for taking my comment out of context. Lets just focus in on the part you wanted to throw out there, lets pretend I didn’t add the equality notion of it all and only wanted to state disregard of human life.
When you discriminate at the level he does, and when you purposefully impose your views as laws and oppress others into trying to fit only one mode of life and religious belief you take away from life. You have no regard for anyone that will not follow your choice in life, that my friend is dictatorship, and oppression, that is the definition of disregard.
As for the idea that he “did” so much for refuges of Katrina, by far, the statistics have proven that the ones of need have done more for those of need than any politician, and that by far the liberals give more out of their own pockets on a daily basis for society than those of the right.
