Bachmann “subdued” on Arizona immigration law

Rep. Michele Bachmann has been asked twice this week by major media outlets about her reaction to Arizona’s new immigration law that requires proof of citizenship when individuals are stopped by the police in that state. Both times she avoided saying whether she supported or opposed the law.

Politico asked Bachmann for her reaction on Tuesday and she responded that she hadn’t paid much attention.

Even the normally outspoken Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) was subdued. “You know I haven’t even really been following it to tell the truth,” she told POLITICO when asked about the law.

When asked about immigration more generally, she said: “People have a right to feel that they can be safe and protected in their own homes and on their own land, and that idea of the federal government doing its job to secure the city for the American people is something that’s been lagging.”

On Wednesday, Fox Business Network asked her for her take. She said the new law was a “concern” and the federal government was not doing enough on immigration.

“It is a real concern, the law that just passed in Arizona,” she said. “What this demonstrates is the failure of the federal government to live up and assume its responsibilities to keep the American people safe. That’s the first duty of government and we have failed to do that.”

She added, “What we are gong to see is a multiplicity of responses in various states.”

So, is she advocating spending money to address the problem? Money that came from taxes? Or to just do it with magic?

That is as close to reasonable as I have ever heard Michele Bachmann, right up until she was asked about Crist.

Free markets are being dissed? Like the ones that caused the recession? Or the ones that drive down wages? Or the ones that kill miners? Or the ones that pollute the Gulf? The ones that add fees to credit cards and bank accounts? The predators of Wall Street. The money launderers of Goldman Sachs?

The free markets are an anarchy that is collapsing under it’s own inherent greed.

Free markets are not getting respect because they have betrayed our trust and expectations.

She also seems unaware that we have been fighting a recession, and that recent spending levels are not permanent.

The mindless republican march to the extreme will be the death of “the last best hope of Earth.”

WOW!The racists are coming out of the woodwork. How about naming the police stste of Arizona the nations penitentiary and sending all the minorities out there.Sheriff Joe Eichmann would love it.His own little kingdom full of people he hates.I would have one suggestion, since major league baseball is comprised of a majority of minorities, why doesn’t the players association organize a boycott and not visit the Arizona Diamondbacks stadium according to their schedule??
