Minnesota Public Radio’s Bob Collins took note of a sign at the Tax Cut Rally on Saturday at the Capitol that read, “Obama: Even a monkey can figure it out.” The rally was headlined by Rep. Michele Bachmann and Republican candidate for governor Rep. Tom Emmer.

The Star Tribune‘s Jim Gehrz took this picture on Saturday. The arrow is courtesy of Bob Collins.

I will be waiting for Bachmann to speak out against these racist signs.

Since George Bush was routinely portrayed as a chimp, apparently as a metaphor for his ignorance, it seems to me that anyone who would see a sign that uses a monkey to illustrate ignorance as “racist,” is the actual racist.

The chimp thing also had to do with Bush’s appearance. Pointing out that his physical features and expressions resemble a chimp is a form of free speech which is enjoyed by ALL. Except if the president is a democrite, of course; then it’s racism and possibly a criminal civil rights violation.
