Three Minnesota couples have filed suit against the State of Minnesota alleging that Minnesota’s ban on same-sex marriage violates due process and freedom of association rights. Two of the same-sex couples are from Minneapolis and one is from Duluth. The couples filed the suit in Hennepin County District Court on Tuesday.

Minnesota’s Defense of Marriage Act limits marriage in Minnesota to one man and one woman. Marry Me Minnesota, a grassroots group, has filed the suit with the help of Minneapolis lawyer Peter J. Nickitas

Couples suing for the right to marry are Duane Gajewski and Doug Benson of Minneapolis, Lindzi Campbell and Jesse Dykhuis of Duluth, John Rittman and Tom Trisko of Minneapolis.

Woot, woot! Finally, some movement forward for equality. Even if we have a Democratic governor this year, I doubt much progress will be made unless judicial action is taken.

It is unfortunate, but with the makeup of the new Supreme Court, this suit is a non-starter.

I believe same sex couples should have all the rights of married couples but leave the ‘marriage’ term out of it. Two women with a plastic sexual surrogate does not a marriage make nor will they bear children. It’s something else. And the excuse of comparing this to a man/woman marriage who can’t have children is comparing it to a ‘damaged’ couple which is a small percentage while same sex is 100% in this regard.

Marriage is such a corrupted institution in this country it does not need further destruction by allowing same-sex marriage.
Our government has chosen a path which discourages marriage (marriage tax penalty, etc). Divorce is too easy to come by and so there are multiple marriages even among straigt couples.
To allow same-sex marriage as a right, when it is clearly an abomination against the natural order of the universe is insane.
I know there are gay and lesbian people who will argue that sometimes animals will “ride” other same sex animals. But let’s not allow the human race to sink to the level of the rest of the animal world. We must be something more.

Dear Longhorn,

//Marriage is such a corrupted institution in this country it does not need further destruction by allowing same-sex marriage.//

I am curious to know what logical argument you have that shows in what way allowing same-sex marriages would “further destroy” the institution of marriage.

//Our government has chosen a path which discourages marriage (marriage tax penalty, etc).//

I’m not sure I agree… but whether I do or don’t has nothing to do with the fact of the matter, and neither does your comment about government “choosing a path which discourages marriage.” Please stick to the issue at hand: marriage equality.

//Divorce is too easy to come by and so there are multiple marriages even among straigt couples.//

What’s wrong with divorce and/or remarrying? And what does this have to do with marriage equality?

//To allow same-sex marriage as a right, when it is clearly an abomination against the natural order of the universe is insane.//

It’s not clear to me how same-sex marriage is an “abomination against the natural order of the universe.” How do you define “natural order of the universe?”

I think it’s insane to prevent two consenting of the same-sex to express their love for each other in society’s highest institution of love.

//I know there are gay and lesbian people who will argue that sometimes animals will “ride” other same sex animals.//

This isn’t about sex. This is about love. You can’t seem to see that.

//But let’s not allow the human race to sink to the level of the rest of the animal world. We must be something more.//

And I suppose you think that by telling a certain segment of the human population that they should deny themselves and suppress the love that they experience would help humanity be something more? Puh-lease.

Marriage is between a man and a woman. If lesbians or Queers want to form a legal union and are successful in court, call it something else.

If they have children, which physically they cannot, what do they call their parents?! Mom ana Mom?! Dad and Dad?!

The children will suffer as there is no way that all of society will honor and except this.

“Same sex marriage” is not the equivalent and can never be equal to marriage. Same sex couples can *never* procreate.

@Nachman: Neither can couples over a certain age, infertile couples, or couples who choose not to have children. Should *all* of these people be denied equal access to all of the State and Federal benefits associated with marriage? NO.
