Franken uses WaPo cartoon in pitch for credit-rating reform

Sen. Al Franken brought a visual aid to the Senate floor the other day in support of his amendment to the financial regulation bill: a cartoon by the Washington Post’s Tom Toles. Franken earnestly describes the cartoon and why it’s funny. It shows an iceskating man labeled “Wall St.” — “he’s kind of fat there,” says Franken — dumping garbage on the ice as judges, representing credit rating companies, give him across-the-board perfect 10s. “There we see an apple core, there’s a fish head… skeleton, a banana,” Franken said. “You don’t want those on the ice! You just don’t want that. That’s bad.”

Taxpayers, he adds, are the ones that get to clean such messes up.

“I think after seeing this cartoon, if anyone doesn’t support my amendment, I don’t know what could do that,” Franken said, perhaps too wryly.

It remains to be seen if even Al Franken can teach the republicans how comedy works.

What’s next, maybe he’ll show a Sponge Bob video to explain his views? Arrogance plus stupidity often results in train wrecks like Al.

Get a job, Jimmy.

Excellent suggestion, Stanton.

Once again, the choice of words by a writer reflects who he really is. “Arrogance plus stupidity often results in train wrecks like [the writer] …”

I am no Sigmund Freud, but I’ve noticed this phenomenon again and again and again.

Just go away, Jimmy.

Maybe Jimmy just wasn’t quite able to grasp it. Perhaps that’s really why he’s suggesting ‘Sponge Bob’. There certainly was no cogent point supported by his comment. In fact, his attitude eerily reflected the main character in the cartoon … not able to skate very well himself, he’s reduced to strewing the ice with garbage to make it harder for those who are more able, a very popular technique among the tea-set crowd…

Jimmy’s entire raison d’être is to leave his turds in the punch bowl here. His ego thrives when we respond.

No, my point is that Al is arrogant and mentally juvenile as evidenced by his silly antics and immature commentary.

I wasn’t even addressing his braindead approach to financial reform. People should have known what they were voting for. He’s like the dog that humps the guests’ legs at holiday meetings. Best just chuckle nervously and change the subject.

I guess that Senator Franken didn’t dumb down the explanation of “conflict of interest” enough for Jimmy.

Here is an example of the country that conservatives want to “take back.”
