‘Gathering Storm’ group returns with more anti–gay marriage ads

The National Organization for Marriage (NOM), a group that was instrumental in overturning same-sex marriage in California and Maine, is out with an ad in Minnesota calling it the “next key battleground state.” The group — which created a much-spoofed “Gathering Storm” ad in 2009  — plans to spend $200,000 on its Minnesota media buy and is coordinating the campaign with the Minnesota Family Council.

“NOM sees Minnesota as the next key battleground state in the fight to preserve marriage in America,” said Brian Brown, NOM’s president, in a statement Tuesday. “Many Minnesotans are unaware that special interest groups are working to convince activist judges and DFL lawmakers to redefine marriage in the state.”

Tom Prichard, president of the Minnesota Family Council praised the ads: “We welcome NOM to Minnesota and appreciate their efforts to inform Minnesotans on the serious threat to marriage in our state. Marriage bonds mothers and fathers to one another and children to their parents. The well-being of society is at stake when the institution of marriage is attacked.”

Here’s the ad:

I hope that voters in Minnesota see through the lies and nonsense of NOM and realize that there are more important issues in this country than keeping a small minority from getting married. It’s time there right wing kooks actually spent money on things that are important in the states and country. People can’t pay their mortgages, lost their jobs etc and this bunch wastes $200,000 on nonsense.

Hopefully OutFront MN decides to respond with an ad of their own instead of just taking it.

Jeez, can’t these folks @ NOM find something more productive to do with their time? How about listening to Laura Bush?

I almost feel flattered that NOM thinks MN is the next battleground state. It sure doesn’t feel like gay marriage is coming here anytime soon to me.

I’ll put money on the fact that NOM president Brian Brown will be the next George Rekers, Ted Haggard, Jim West, Larry Craig [self-hating closet case]. Someone please out him, and put an end to this divisive culture war. There is real harm in denying dignity to ALL flavors of families.

Speaking of “just taking it”.

Did you all see the video of John Marty crying after T-Paw bent him over the table? I swear I saw his little lip quivering like a lilly! HAHAHA!

Tom Prichard is a parasite who has used the gay people of Minnesota as his meal ticket for decades. I suspect the Republican party pays him to stir up this rats nest before each election.

Ambrose… thank you! I get skeeved, and dirty feeling everytime I read a word he says, or hear him speak.

I feel the that not having equality for same sex couples is what is demeaning and weakening my marriage!

ThomasAlex… They don’t care to hear about history and the facts, for they are the same people that didn’t want racial equality and gender equality. They believe in the literal aspect of the bible. And the bible supports and condones slavery.

These are the extremists, the radicals and cult like indoctrinating oppressive people.

This isn’t what “God” intended at all.

I hope Minnesota can see that.

First of all how do you “impose” gay marriage on someone? There has to be some Republi-Bagger out there that can answer this for me.. If your gay your gay and if your straight your straight. Who cares if gays want to get married. Let them.. We all know that this NOM is some Neo-Christio tongue waggling freak fest that hates queers based on some angry blood stained Messiah. In reality what NOM is afraid of is their own repressed sexuality.. Religion is really good at repressing thought, feeling, emotion, instinct and individual freedom..
Second of all how many corporately funded Republican “Institutes” are out there?? Heritage Foundation, National Organization for Marriage, Ayn Rand Institute, Liberty Foundation, The Tea Party .. If I was a Republican I’d want my porn name to be— “The Institute for Screamin’ Eagles and Patriotic Satan Beaters.. ISEPSB..lol

Isn’t it about time that the religious right start standing up for things instead of against people?

isn’t it about time for them to stop the oppressive indoctrination of their singular religious view onto the public?

I do not believe in the things you believe in. If your religion hates the gays and does not want gays in your church that is your choice to believe what ever you want to believe.

But its a choice! your religion is a choice, not a fact and not in all my truth.

I do not make you by law follow my views stop making me.

I want my neighbors, friends, family members, and fellow citizens to all have equal rights as I do.

I am a woman married to a man. One marriage only, no divorce, I feel my marriage is weakened by the idea that Gays do not have equal rights. Not the other way around
